[N] Hi everyone!
Thanks so much for watching this video,
and thanks to all my friends for coming to help sing and play with me.
In honor of Shabbat Shira, I wanted to share some new music with the world.
This melody, [D#] this song, comes from Psalm 59,
[G#] which is a song that's not in our liturgy,
but I found when I was looking for other texts that have the word oz in it,
the word strength, similar to Ozi v'zrimratia,
which comes from this week's [Bm] Torah portion, [G] V'shalach, for Shirat Hayam,
God is my strength [A] and my song.
And there's a midrash about this verse from Shir HaShirim Rava,
which compares the people of Israel and God to a child and a king.
And the king has a bunch of very precious jewels and stones,
and the son says, please, give me these stones, father!
And the king says, they're yours, to you I give them, they've always been yours.
So to the [D#] people of Israel, when they're at the Red Sea, about to cross to freedom,
they say, Ozi v'zrimratia, God is my [N] strength and my song.
God, God can be our strength, give us this strength.
And God says, it's yours, it's always been yours,
and to you I give it.
[D#] And they do something really wonderful with the word Ozi right there,
they say, v'ein oz ella Torah, [A] there is no strength except for Torah.
[Cm] So what does it mean to have strength be Torah?
And then, [N] v'ani ashir uzakha, to be singing your strength.
Eylecha [G#m] uzi azameira, I will sing my strength to [D#] you.
So what does it mean to sing our strength into the world?
And I looked at these words and I thought about them,
and [B] they shouted out for a melody, and so I gave them this one.
And I wanted to share it with you and bring a little bit of strength
