[F] [G]
[C] Hello!
OK, so if you've been playing ukulele chords for a while and you want to get started doing a little bit of fingerpicking
and you're bored of strumming, this is hopefully going to be the video for you.
I'm going to keep it really simple, nothing too complex in this one, but hopefully you've got some ideas that you can take away
and go and run with some of the songs that you know and try fingerpicking those.
OK, so fingerpicking.
Probably the best starting point is to work out which finger's going to be doing what.
So, I like to put my fingers on in place and kind of use that as my starting point.
So our thumb is going to be taking these two strings, the G and the C string.
[B] OK, [N] he's going to cover all of those, always the thumb playing those two, there's never going to be an exception to that.
For you beginners out there, thumb these two strings, G and C.
Index finger is going to [E] be taking the E string, [Am] and our second finger is going to be taking the bottom string.
And [C] what we're going to do is we're just going to pick a really simple pattern.
Thumb, [A] index, second, back to index.
[G#] No chord, not going to do anything with this [C] fretting hand.
We're just going to pick that nice and steady.
Thumb, index, second, index.
[Em] [Am]
[Em] [Am] [G] Once you kind of get that comfortable, [Am] then we're going to put a chord in place.
So we're going [D] to try a C chord to start with, same pattern again.
Nice and slow, just keep it steady, that's all we're [C] going for here.
OK,
[G] that's cool.
Once we get that down, [F#] we're going to try and alternate between maybe a C and an F chord.
I'm going to [C] assume you know these chords by now.
[F] [C]
[F] [C] [F]
[G] OK, good.
And really that's kind of the pattern I want you to get used to today.
We can switch between any kind of chord that we want to do.
One more thing that we could probably play around with [F#] is introducing an alternating bass note.
So instead of playing the G string, the E string and the A string, we're [Cm] going to play [Am] G, B, A, C, A.
[C] So what our thumb's doing [G] is switching [G#] between these two strings each time it comes back.
And that's going to get a little bit more of an interesting sound going on when you're playing.
You get something like [C] this.
[F]
[G] [C] And that's it.
Take that away.
[G] Try and apply that pattern to some of the songs that you normally strum, see how that goes
