You sound amazing, it's so great to have you here today
Thank you so much
Thanks for having us
I see lots of smiley faces in the listening room over there
Yes, we have a very big audience today
Excited that you're here as well
And I never get tired of watching your live shows
I find myself holding my breath
The whole looping thing is just captivating
And full of wonder for me every time
And even during that song Gangsta
I knew you were looping your vocals
Yet I whipped my head around to see who was doing those backing vocals
Is that sort of like the musical equivalent of multitasking over there?
Yes, with every limb of my body, yes
You make it look so easy
I mean there's just this placid look on your face
You're smiling a lot
I would think that you might hit a wrong button
And have the wrong thing come looping in
Does that happen sometimes?
It happened
You saw it, you just didn't know
I didn't know
Well that makes me want to mention
I'm a big fan of your live shows and your albums
But I view them as two distinct things
I don't think of you as in a live setting
Just performing the songs on the album for an audience
How do you look at those two distinct things?
I think it was far more distinct
With the last album, with Birdbrains
Because I think the aesthetic of the album was really important to me
But then there was only so much of that
That I wanted to translate to the live show
I think with this album, we're getting closer
In terms of how close the album and the live show match
Matt and Casey, who are playing saxophone today
They played on the album and now are touring with us
Nate, Brenner on bass, same thing
We did so much of the album together
So I think a lot of the sounds and the lineup is relatively the same
But I do think there's a cut and paste patchwork element to my recordings
We try to get to the live stage
But it's not of the utmost importance
