Hey guys, what's up?
It's Sean from Peabody Record Live and today we're going to be going over the main riff
from Trilogy Suite, Opus 5 from Yngwie Malmsteen.
[Em]
[E] [Ebm] [G] You
[E] [G]
[E] hear it is slowed down.
[G]
[Fm] [C] [Ab]
[E] So the first part of the lick is alternating between doing a triplet on
the open G string and then a sequence of triplets [Ab] down the C harmonic [Em] minor scale.
So we do triplet
on the open G and then the first grouping of [Gm] three is [E] triplet on the open [C] G again and then
we move the [E] sequence down to D.
[Ab] [E]
A triplet again on the open G.
The next grouping of the [Cm] scale
starts on E flat [Bb]
[G] then open G again and then we [Am] start from C.
[Eb]
[Em] Open G, triplet, from D again.
[F]
[Em] Open G again and then we do something a little bit differently.
We play the fourth fret of the
G string and pull up to the open G.
[G] The second part of [Db] this lick is also based on the C harmonic
minor scale and the trickiest part about this lick is the fact that we're in 12-8 but the first
[C] beat is still four 16th notes which is a [Eb] really important rhythm.
So [Gb] the first four notes are 16
notes so it's [C] one E [Gm] and a
[Eb] [C] little back to triplets.
Triplet, triplet, so one E and a triplet.
[E] [C] [E] And then from there to the end of the riff we stay within triplets.
So make sure to get that rhythm down especially when you start speeding it up.
[C] [G]
[C] [B] [Bb] That's all for this lick lesson.
