[E] Hi, everybody Tommy James here with another episode of inside tracks about ten years ago
We were producing a little TV show called American jukebox for cable TV, and I was going to get a chance to
Introduce you to some of my friends in the early years of rock and roll well one of the people I had the opportunity
to interview was Richie Cordell my songwriting partner and
very good friend and
Shortly after we [F] did this interview
Richie passed away, and I can't tell you how grateful.
I am to have these final few minutes with him on tape and
I thought I would share it with you so here is Richie Cordell's last interview
[C#m] [F#]
[F] I'm sitting here with my old friend and songwriting [G#] partner Richie Cordell.
Hey Rich.
Thanks for coming on the show
Listen do you remember the night?
We recorded moany moany?
I certainly do we must have had 50 people in the studio doing hand claps and background screams and everything great people to wild night
We had some very interesting [F#] people and some of them were actually sober right yeah, we had
Bobby Bloom
His ponce yeah, yeah, [C#m] Pete Anders
He's Anders Kenny Laguna if he played a very small and I don't be paid very well for those who may [F#] not know
the story [E] behind moany
Richie and I were up at my apartment in New York the night [F] before and and we were really going crazy because we'd written this
Crazy party rock [C#m] song and we already had finished the track, but we just couldn't come up with a title
We were looking for Sloopy Apache
Boni-Marone those make-believe name crazy names.
Yeah, and
so nothing was working and
Finally in disgust we [G#] threw our guitars down and walked out on the terrace and as we looked up into the night sky
The first thing our [F#m] eyes fell on was [N] this sign
Mutual of New York and it kept flashing
Money money mo and why we thought it was God like seeing God yeah
Well anyway, I mean God think yeah
Don't take it too far
That became the title obviously and you know I've often thought that if we had been looking in another direction
Howard Johnson could have been anything met life taft hotel
About [D] prudential YMCA was my first choice
