TOM RUSH PERFORMS "LET'S TALK DIRTY IN HAWAIIAN" chords
Start Jamming...
After reviewing a few records, I realized that a lot of what I recorded back then, you can't do anymore.
Times have changed.
It's a whole different world out there.
Whole different sensibilities and everything.
You can't, today you couldn't possibly, couldn't possibly do a song.
[G] For instance, [A] like
If you got you one [E] woman,
[D] [Am] boys, you better get you five,
[D] [A] cause there's two might [B] quit you,
[E] [Am] the other three might die.
[F] [E]
No way.
[A] You couldn't possibly, you couldn't, today you couldn't do a song like
Will you big [Am] fat woman get your fat legs off of me?
[A]
And that's a shame, cause that song is an ode.
It's a, it's a peeing to big fat
Got the meat shaking on the bone.
[E] Every time she [D] dance, skinny gal gonna lose her [A] home.
She got the great big legs, she got them whopping thighs.
[Abm] Every [D] time she dance, make my temperature [A] rise.
[C] It's the only song I ever heard where the guy rhymes big fat leg with move like a soft boiled egg.
I don't know much about poetry, but I know what I like.
That's poetry.
So all that stuff's off limits, you can't perform it.
So I found myself scraping around the margins of good taste looking for material.
And came upon this one, written by a couple of friends, a guy named Fred Kohler,
and a guy named John Prine.
And Fred and John, I can't remember the exact story, but the essence, the essence of it is,
they were somewhere.
They were somewhere and they had five minutes, and they decided they would write a song.
And they decided they should write a foreign language song.
And they decided further that it should be a language neither of them could speak.
And this is the result.
Now these are two good solid midwestern boys, which informs the tune as you will see.
Well I packed my bag and bought myself a ticket to the land of the [G] tall palm tree.
Aloha, old Milwaukee.
And hello, [C] Waikiki.
I just stepped down from the airplane when I [F] heard her say,
Waka waka [C] nuka lika, waka waka [G] nuka lika, would you [C] like a lay?
Hey, let's talk dirty in Hawaiian, [G] whisper in my ear.
Hickapooka maka wawahini are the words I long [C] to hear.
Lay your coconuts on my tiki.
What the hecka mooka [F] mooka dear?
Let's talk dirty [C] in Hawaiian, [G] say the words I [C] long to hear.
It's a ukulele Honolulu sunset, listen to the grass [G] skirts sway.
Drinking rum from Pineapple out on [C] Honolulu Bay.
The steel guitars are playing, she's talking with [F] her hands.
Gimme gimme [C] yonka donka, make a wish I want [G] a poker, words I [C] understand.
[G] [C] Let's talk dirty in Hawaiian, whisper in [G] my, everybody,
Hickapooka maka wawahini, hickapooka maka wawahini,
are the [Am] words that women [C] over 40.
What the hecka [F] mooka mooka dear?
Let's talk [C] dirty in Hawaiian, [Em] say the words I [C] long to hear.
[F] Let's [C] talk dirty in Hawaiian, [G] say the [F] words [G] I long [C] to hear.
