[Dm] So [Bb] the quiet jungle [F]
[C] music
[F]
[Fm] An engineer's heard this, a producer's heard this,
an A&R man's heard this, and the [C] band themselves have heard this record.
[F] All of them have heard it, and no [Bb]-one's actually said,
no, we can't put [F] this out, it's rubbish.
It was a kind of a particularly [Ebm] nasty piece of pop exploitation,
and I just can't understand why anyone ever bothered to buy that.
It was the 80s.
[Db] People would buy anything with a lion in it.
[Dbm] Please [Gb] come back again Hey!
[Db] This jungle classic is still [Ab] very contemporary.
In recent years, [A] the Lion [Gm] King nicked it and the Baha Men sampled [F] it.
Who let the cats out?
Baby, don't [G] tell me it's late
[C] Maybe they just like the video.
[F] This is one [Bb] of the early [Fm] creations of a kind of a band
that was actually put together for image rather than for [C] performing ability.
Hey, [F] how you doing?
[Bb] [F]
The bizarre thing [C] about Tight Fit was that for The Lion [F] Sleeps Tonight,
Tight Fit [G] was a good-looking male model
with two good-looking female models at the side of him,
whereas for the previous [E] single, Tight Fit was a kind of 60s band
who wore kind of shades and black suits
and did cover versions of records from the 60s.
[F] But Tight Fit was whatever the producers thought would sell that week.
[G] And that week, it was Steve, [F] Julie and Denise.
[Bb] But [F] [C]
[F] [Bb]
behind the [F] public face of Tight Fit lay a [C]
dark, dark secret.
[F] [G]
We never met the real man who [Gm] sang the song.
It really [Ab] was a commercial exercise, I think.
So we were just there to be the group.
I actually didn't [F] have anything to do with the recording of The Lion, no.
If I'd have been fronting Tight Fit, it would have fallen apart within a week.
I argue a lot, especially with the likes of the people who are running it.
No, my character was wrong.
Steve's was [C] perfect.
So whilst Roy's [F] vocals [Eb] upset dogs and threatened glassware,
ex-catalog model Steve [G] Grant got the job of miming in a chamois leather tea towel.
[Gb] It's sung [F] by a man [Gm] at a very high pitch.
People might be quite interested in a subconscious way
as to how a man can actually sing at that pitch.
I've always been quite embarrassed about it
because it's not the best vocal in the world by any means.
[F] I listen to it and think, [Gm] Jesus, that's [C] crap sometimes.
[F] [Bb]
[F] [C] So it's not the vocal for me, it's the whole thing [F] of it.
And the way they presented it was tongue-in-cheek party time.
It was good fun, apart from being offered to wear the lion suit
on top of the pops for 80 quid,
which I thought was a bit of a poking over the sharp stick.
[Bb] [F]
[C] [F] [A]
[G]
Oh, [F] jerk, I must have nodded off there.
[Gm] 80 pounds?
I was offered a [F] wildebeest and a camel special, bro,
and [G] that certainly [C] sorted me out.
Yeah, [F] so, top of the pops.
Well, as a red [Bb]-blooded carnivore,
I've never seen [F] so much flesh on this bed.
[C]
The [Fm] first top of the pops we did,
Steve was supposed [Bb] to be wearing a loincloth.
[F] And Michael Hull, the executive producer at the [C] time,
said [Bb] it was far too risqué, he wasn't allowed to [F] wear it.
[C] But then when we did get to number one,
[F] we were then saying to Steve,
I thought, go on, Steve, wear the loincloth.
[Bb] And by then, because we'd had a bit of [F] [Gm] success,
the producer [C] was quite happy for him to wear the [F] loincloth.
[Am]
[Gm] And thanks to the [A] girls' [Dm] outfits,
some young men [G] of Britain were troubled by their loins
[Eb] and [F] reaching for cloths.
[Gm] I have met people [Ab] recently that said [F] that I helped [Bb] them become a man.
I [F] remember cracking my first one after [C] that video.
[F]
Er, [Bb] just nipping to the loo, Mum.
[F]
[C] I think it was the thigh boots that did [G] it.
And it brings out the animal instinct in most men.
Oh!
Oh!
Oh, God!
Let me tell you.
[Eb]
[G] I had a dream
There was a rainbow
Over the mountains
Over the sea
Meanwhile, head [Ab]-bunted hunk Steve got the [G] primal fear
as Hunter became hunted.
It [N] sort of frightened him a bit,
the fact that he was suddenly surrounded by these screaming girls
[G] that were just in awe of him,
absolutely, you know, [Ab] wanted to rip the clothes off his back.
[N]
[Cm] To D.S.T.
And it was [B] an unhappy ending for Julie and Denise.
After one more hit, [Em] the record company exchanged them
for a couple of new fit birds.
But the magic was gone, [B] and by 1983, so was [C] the band.
The good news is they've [Ab] reformed,
though with none of the original members.
We were asked by a couple of promoters that knew of our involvement
if we would, you know, consider putting Tightfoot on the road.
And at the time, I wasn't doing much, you know, live work anyway,
so I said, we'll give it a go.
So we put a show together, basically,
and it just worked.
As this exclusive video footage shows.
[Eb] Are you ready?
[G] [C] You said, are you ready?
[D] I have genuinely got a love-hate relationship with the song.
If I hear it, I'll chuckle.
[C] Halfway through, I'll probably be in [F] tears.
You and me both, [Bb] Roy.
[F]
[C] Meow!
[F]
[Bb] [F]
[C] [Ab] I'll put my hand up and agree
that probably the lion's loop tonight was as annoying for you
as it was [F] for us.
Yeah, I'm all [Bb] tired, Rex.
Give me a hand, give me a hand.
[F] [C] See you again sometime.
[F]
Whoa!
