Hello everybody, this is Mojo from 3chordguitar.com and I would like to, by request, show you
a song called Me and Bobby McGee.
My favorite version of that song is actually known by Janis Joplin, although God bless
her she did a great job with it.
But I like the version from Chris Christopherson.
So anyway, the chords we're going to need for this song are going to be [G] G, [C] C, [A] and [D]
D7.
In case you're not familiar [N] with the D7, this is what it looks like.
Basically you place your index finger on the first fret of the B string, you then place
your johnny cash finger on the second fret of the G string, and then you place your ring
finger on the second fret of the high [D] E string.
And [Gm] that's all there is to it.
Alright, [C#] so the [N] song starts in [G] G.
Bus a flight in that old bus, waiting for the train.
We still haven't changed chords, you're going to love that.
Feeling the air be faded as [D] my jeans.
There's that D7 coming up.
Bobby thumbed the diesel down, just before it rained.
Took us all the way [G] to New Orleans.
Back to G.
Took my heartburn out, my dirty red bandanna.
It's blowing sad while Bobby sang the [C] blues.
Okay, [F#] I cheated here.
[G] I said there was only a G, I added a G7.
A G7 is basically the same thing as a G, [N] except that instead of having the third fret on the
high E string being fretted, traditionally either [F#] by your pinky or another finger depending
on how you do it, you actually put your index finger on the first [G] fret of the high E string.
And so you could basically go from a G to a G7 by just putting the pinky back down where it belongs.
[F#m] Alright, so that was a [G] G7.
[C] [A#m]
So what do we have here?
[G]
Took my heartburn out, my dirty red bandanna.
It's blowing sad while Bobby sang [C] the blues.
Back to C.
Those windshield wipers slapping [G] time, Bobby keeping hands.
Back to G.
We [D] finally sang D7, a favorite song that [G] driver knew.
Back to G.
The chorus starts [C] in C.
Freedom's just another word [G] for G, nothing left to lose.
[D] D7, nothing and worth nothing, [G] but it's free.
G.
Back to [C] C.
Feeling good was easy, Lord, [G] when G, Bobby sang the blues.
[D] D7.
Feeling good was good enough for me,
[Am] good enough for me and [G] Bobby McGee.
Back to G.
From the cold mountains of Kentucky, California sun, Bobby shared the secrets of my [D] soul.
Standing right beside me, Lord, through everything I've done, every night she kept me from [G] the cold.
Nowhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away, looking for the home I hope she'll [C] find.
Nitrate all of my [G] tomorrow, simple yesterday, [D] holding Bobby's body next [G] to mine.
[C] Freedom's just another [G] word for G, nothing left to lose.
[D] D7, nothing and worth nothing, [G] but it's free.
[C] Feeling good was easy, Lord, [G] when Bobby sang the blues.
[D] Feeling good was good enough for me, good enough for me and Bobby [G] McGee.
[C] C,
[G] G.
[D]
[G]
[N] And that's pretty much it.
As far as the strumming goes, it's [G] probably fairly straightforward.
So it's down, down, up, down.
Down, up, down.
Down, up, down, up, up.
Down, up, down.
Down, up, down, up.
Up, down, up, down.
Down, up, down, up, up.
When I go up, as always, all I pretty much do is use my thumb, my thumbnail, to just rake up.
Which automatically leaves my other four fingers ready to go down.
[C] [G]
[D] [G]
That's the song.
I hope this is helpful.
