[E] [B] Three Degrees [Ab] became overnight sensations with their number one hit [F] When Will I See
You Again.
We're going to be talking to [Eb] them in just a moment.
First though, let's have
a trip down memory lane.
[A] When will I [E] see you [Gbm] again?
It was a song that secured [A] their place in 70s soul [D] history.
The Three Degrees [A] first
came to be in 1963 [E] and since then they've had 10 different singers.
[Dbm] The girls had their
biggest success in the 70s, notching up 10 [Gbm] top 40 hits in the UK.
[Gb] It was [A] during that
time that they [D] first caught the eye of a young Prince Charles and he revealed they were his
favourite group.
[E] The girls were invited to the [F] reception of his wedding to Princess [Fm] Diana,
earning [F] them the title Charlie's Angels.
In a career spanning 47 years, the Three Degrees
continue to tour all over the world.
The Three Degrees join me now, it's so good [N] to see the three of you.
You look fantastic.
I know, I can't believe it's 47 years together.
Clearly you were toddlers when you started
out.
We were.
Child stars, obviously.
But it's great to see you and you still love it,
you still love what you do, don't you?
Quite much.
[G] Yeah.
And your big tour starts Friday?
Yes.
It [N] starts on Friday all over the country?
Yes.
Excellent.
Excellent.
So people can really
come along and you'll be playing all of the songs that they know so, so well.
We've got a chance to
sing more than just 20 minutes.
Yeah.
So it's going to be very nice.
No, exactly.
And like I
said, you obviously still love what you do.
I mean, you've been doing it for [Gb] a while, but you
still enjoy it?
[G]
A little while.
We do.
I think that's probably why we're still running about.
We do thoroughly enjoy it.
So Val, you were kind of, you were both, both of you,
Valerie, I know that you were from the very, very start, both of you and Helen from [Eb] the very,
very start.
You've always been the kind of constant.
You've always been there, haven't you?
For the full years.
For all the years together.
And it's been [G] incredible, you know, because
[Eb] you were equally at home.
We saw your pictures there with Les Dawson and I know you did a lot
of kind of shows like that, you know, the big shows of the time.
Yes.
[N] You did a lot of that.
But then it was all that kind of sound of Philly, that lovely, sophisticated
music that you did too.
So you, you kind of spanned all generations, really.
[Gb] Which was very nice.
We were, it was quite flattering to be able to look down in the
audience and see [Ab] little ones as well as great ones.
You know, [N] it was very good.
Absolutely.
And of course, everybody always goes on about the fact that Prince Charles
adored you and you were his favourite band.
Now, everybody said, oh, that's fantastic for
your careers.
That was a great thing to have the royal stamp of approval.
But actually,
you probably did as much for him because at that time, no, you did, because at that time,
he was perceived, believe it or not, as, exactly, he was a bit stiff.
He was a bit of a fuddy-duddy,
let's be honest.
And you gave him a bit of glamour.
No, you did.
[G] You did.
You definitely
did.
You made him a bit hip, a bit cool.
OK.
Like, rubbed off.
It's because he did the bumps,
see, so.
We appreciate what he did for us as well.
Yeah, no, it's not a bad old thing to be,
you know, to be his favourite band.
[Em] It's actually rather nice.
You can see by royal [Ab] approval,
which is [Gm] lovely.
Well, we never said that.
No, you didn't.
No, no, no, no,
that if he did or not either.
I think the press kind of got us [Ab] with that.
But it's fine.
[E] It's
absolutely fine.
All right.
[Ab] Now, Freddie, you've stepped in because, um.
Cynthia.
Cynthia is not
well.
She's got a really sore back, I believe.
She has [Eb] piriformis syndrome.
Ouch.
Yes.
[B] And the
last trip out that we were in Japan, [D] um, she [Eb] just made it through [E] that.
It's a very, very painful.
I had to give her to her.
[G] She was in the scooch.
We send her our very, very best.
I hope she gets
well soon.
Freddie, it does mean that you've been parachuted [N] in to come to the rescue.
Yes, I have been.
And [Abm] it is an absolute honour.
And I'm having fun.
I'm looking forward to [G] many,
many wonderful, wonderful dates.
Yeah.
OK.
Yeah.
Good.
You're starting to kick off in Scotland,
I believe.
So it'll be good fun.
Yeah.
No, just chat him, I [N] think.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We're still coming
to grips with where we're going.
We haven't yet.
You've got the paper.
Read it off.
You know what?
We'll put what we'll do is we'll obviously put it all on the website.
Yes, please.
People can
ask.
I have to say to you, you look fantastic.
What is the secret?
What is the secret?
Not
getting up early in the morning.
Oh, yeah.
And she's a girl.
I just told the old face.
But you do look great.
All three of you look terrific.
Thank you.
Oh, gosh.
Do you do you
have to work [Eb] hard at it or is it just something that you have to keep it in under in hand?
You
know, you can't splurge too much on the [B] sweets.
And I know you do have to, [Em] you know, do a bit of
exercising as well.
I [Gb] like walking.
So, you know, it's fun.
Yeah.
And you've got one of your
outfits.
Is that one of the original?
You had a you had a clip there.
And for some [F] out of all
the bits that we had, this was the one that I kept sparkly.
It's got three.
Do you know this
is made [Bm] in England?
OK, [F] we kind of be street.
Oh, you saw it.
It's was white.
She was was a [G] darker
purple.
And this was was [N] mine.
And so when you asked if we had any costumes from the 70s, I
thought, no, we didn't keep anything.
I thought, aha, I do have one that's down.
And the moth have
had wonderful times because it's one of those those silk mohair suits.
So they had a great time
with it.
Keep all of that, you know, really good to keep that.
You do.
[Eb] Yes, because they all the
memorabilia that you get [Gb] and that we've collected down through the years from from different fans
and friends giving you cups and mugs and bears and scrapbooks and it's like a warehouse.
It's
just so much.
You think you ever have to move, you'd be in trouble.
And I know that I know that
Sheila left to [Ebm] do her own thing.
[Eb] She's doing that.
But do you still speak now?
Is it all right now?
It's [Gb] kind of papered over a little bit.
You know, we'll see each other or I mean, because her [G] family
is from Philadelphia.
So she [Ab] she comes in every now and then.
And, you know, sure.
But when our
ships in the night, exactly.
Girls, fantastic to see you.
Good luck with the tour.
Like I said,
we'll put all the dates on the website.
So thank you.
But it's [N] all over the place.
Yes, all over
the place.
Glamour.
You are coming to the O2.
Is it the O2?
When is the O2?
Yes, on the 10th.
Excellent.
I'll be there.
Good.
I'll be there in a sparkly frock.
All right.
You will come up on stage if we invite you up there.
Well, I can't sing, though.
You can dance.
You can dance.
I'll be the four degrees.

You've always been there, haven't you?
For the full years.
_ For all the years together.
_ _ _ Yes, I have been.
And [Abm] it is an absolute honour.
And I'm having fun.
I'm looking forward to [G] many,
many wonderful, wonderful _ dates.
Yeah.
OK.
Yeah.
Good.
You're starting to kick off in Scotland,
I believe.
So it'll be good fun.
Yeah.
No, just chat him, I [N] think.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We're still coming
to grips with where we're going.
We haven't yet.
You've got the paper.
Read it off.
You know what?
We'll put what we'll do is we'll obviously put it all on the website.
Yes, please.
People can
ask.
I have to say to you, you look fantastic.
What is the secret?
What is the secret?
Not
getting up early in the morning.
Oh, _ yeah.
_ But when our
ships in the night, exactly.
Girls, fantastic to see you.
Good luck with the tour.
Like I said,
we'll put all the dates on the website.
So thank you.
But it's [N] all over the place.
Yes, all over
the place.
Glamour.
You are coming to the O2.
Is it the O2?
When is the O2?
Yes, on the 10th.
Excellent.
I'll be there.
Good.
I'll be there in a sparkly frock.
All right.
_ You will come up on stage if we invite you up there.
Well, I can't sing, though.
You can dance.
You can dance.
I'll be the four degrees. _ _ _ _ _
