Hello everybody, it's Corey from Gemini Guitar and in today's lesson we're back with some
metal and some quite heavy metal.
Now what we're going to be doing is drawing from the chromatic scale here and I guess
melodically this doesn't make a whole bunch of sense but it still does sound very very
cool and brings to mind some old school thrash I think.
So basically what's going to happen is we're going to be in 3-4 time and we're going to
be playing a gallop, sorry a reverse gallop rhythm to each beat.
So the rhythmic pattern will be identical from beat to beat.
As always there's a transcription for this, just follow the link below the video that'll
direct you to the webpage and if you're able to do so you can support the channel and to
do that just visit the download store and you can purchase any or all the products there.
There's also some packs available as well if you want to save some money.
Ok so as previously mentioned it is reverse gallop rhythm to every beat.
Also of note is that this will all be palm muted which means that the palm has to rest
just near to the bridge area there and you'll get a sound something like this on the open
low [E] E string.
[Am] Now I'm just going to play the idea at normal speed just [E] before we start out so you can
see and hear what that looks like.
[F#] [F]
[G] [N]
[F#] [G#]
[F] [N]
Ok so this is a really good workout for the left hand as you can see there from the performance.
Now what you want to be doing here is staying in the same position at all times which is
basically the first position.
So the first finger will be at fret 1, middle fret 2, third fret 3 and pinky at fret 4 and
that doesn't change.
So although it's a really cool sounding roof it actually makes a great chop building exercise
for rhythm guitar if you're into the thrashy type of style of playing.
So the first three notes that we're going to be using are the low [E] E, [B] the B note
[G#] and
its flatted [A#] fifth which is the B flat.
[E] [B] [A#]
[N] And the way you're going to do it with each of the reverse gallop rhythms is to go down up [E] down.
[B] [A#]
[E] [B]
[A#] [E] Remember we are in 3-4 time so it's 3 beats per bar.
[B]
[A#] [E] Each reverse gallop rhythm is worth 1 beat.
[B] [A#] Now what we're going to do is proceed to the second fret on the sixth string and we're
going to play that then the first fret on the same string [F#] and then the third fret on
the fifth string.
[F]
[C] [F#] [F]
[C] [N] So in isolation here you could look at this as the F note being the root and the second
fret being its minor second and the third fret [C] is the fifth.
[F] [F#]
[C] [F#] [C]
So a nice [Dm] combination of notes.
[F#]
[F] [C] Okay so in bar three we're going to play the second fret on the [B] fifth string and then we're
going to proceed to the sixth string and play third fret and second fret.
[G]
[F#] [B] [G]
[F#] [N]
And for the last bar, probably the hardest bar for the noobs out there just because you've
got to use the fourth finger.
And I always say to use that finger, like that saying goes, use it or lose it, that
definitely applies to the fourth finger.
So always use the fourth finger when possible and when necessary.
So it's fourth fret on the fifth string then third fret [C#] [C]
and then fourth fret on the sixth [A] string.
So we get.
[C] [G#]
[C#] [C] [G#] [A#m]
[E] Now I'm going to do a slow play through just twice through so you can practice it.
Here we go.
[B] [A#] [G#] [F]
[C] [B] [G] [F#]
[C#] [C] [G#] [E]
[B] [A#] [F#] [F]
[C] [B] [G] [F#]
[C#] [C] [G#]
[E]
So I hope you've enjoyed this lesson.
