Hey guys, welcome back to Last Call.
In tonight's spotlight, we take old time country, [E] blues, folk and rock and channel them through
an artist known simply as the White Buffalo.
And his songs are true Americana.
From Echo Country Outpost, [D] check out tonight's Last Call Spotlight.
[F#] I've been lucky [C#] enough to have a handful of songs in Sons [D] of Anarchy.
It seemed to fit really well with the dark and the light of some of the characters.
[G#] You see more choppers at the shows [F#] now, you know, than you used to.
[Bm]
[A] [D]
My name's Jake Smith, aka [F#] the White Buffalo.
[Bm]
She [A] took him, she doesn't doubt on me.
[F#] But I got nothing more to live for.
So [D] I packed up a bag and went.
I just [F#] started wandering.
[D] I grew up listening to a lot of country western music.
So it was all Waylon Jennings, George Jones.
I describe [F#] my music in a way, it's some kind of folk, country, rock.
It's [Bm] kind of very American, [A] honest.
[B] I've been writing songs for five or six years and recording them basically just on a cassette tape.
And I would send them out to friends and family for holidays, for Christmas.
And a friend of mine worked in kind of the surf industry and some of them started circulating
throughout the surf [G] culture in Southern California.
And it kind of sparked me to say, oh maybe this is what I should be doing.
And then I just started playing in dive bars and wherever I could get shows.
[D] The latest release is called Once Upon a Time in the West.
My idea of the West is kind of Southern California in the 80s growing up.
There's some nostalgic parts of it and a lot of my music has kind of [D] darker, [Em] conflicted [D] themes.
Father, when I gave [G] my soul [D] to you
I came in [G]
blindfolded [D] for you, it was all that I knew.
[G]
[D] I mean I've been making a living [Em] for seven or eight years and it's been pretty much on my own.
[G] It's [Em] about as do-it-yourself as you can be.
I mean I do the majority of the driving.
We load our own gear, we don't have sound men, we just kind of come and play
and try to put on good shows and hopefully [D] people can feel that.
Alright!
[Em]
[D] [G] The live shows are quite aggressive.
[C]
It's not contrived, it's just people coming because somebody else told them it was cool
and hopefully [D] they'll continue coming, you know.
[G] I wish I wasn't [Em] outlawed
Spending my life picking hearts and taking names
[C] There won't be no love lost
Time after time killing dreams when they're right
When they turn [Em] to break
[C] You take it from the other side
[D] You've already lost, but if one [G] more time you get my thrill
[C] Of this old forgotten thrill, [D] this life
[Em]
[E] That was The White Buffalo.
Amazing, right?
The album is called Once Upon a Time in the West.
You gotta get it.
It's out now.
It's so good.
