All right, these are my top [G] 10 rock and roll bands from the Detroit area [Gb] 1968
[C] [A]
[Gbm] All [C]
right, this is the Amhoy [A] Dukes the first band [C] of Ted Nugent right there
who would later go on to have a lot of [Gbm] success as a solo artist, have a lot of hits [C] and
and I'm kind of a slurrier so [Gbm] [A] it's [Em] haunting to [E] see who I can relate to in politics
[Bb] [E] But anyway, yeah, this these guys were pretty [D] psychedelic for the time
Had an album called The [Abm] Journey to the Center of the Mind which is the song you're hearing [C] now
Very good.
[Ab] All right, this is Frigid [B] Pink.
These guys [Dbm] were out of Detroit as well from formed in [Ab] 1968
They had a couple of records before they disbanded
This is their cover [E] of House of the Rising Sun which is their probably the [Abm] most well-known song
[Ab] This is their cover of The [B] Other Manahuts,
[Ab] blues rock [Eb] kind of stuff
[N] All right, coming out of Ann Arbor, Michigan we have [D] SRC
[Bm] These guys were probably one of the most psychedelic bands in the Detroit at the time
Almost British sounding, [G] organ driven, [D] psychedelic kind of [G] stuff
[D]
But yeah, they had [A] a self-titled album that you just saw there that was excellent
[Am]
And yeah, unfortunately this is the best footage I could find of them
[Gbm]
I guess, but excellent song, excellent [F] album, [D] great band
[A]
All [Bb] right, [Ab] Texto Rodriguez, [Dm] simply known as Rodriguez on his [Gm] albums
[Bb] [F] [Ab] Of Mexican heritage [G] born in Detroit
[Gm] They're out with a couple of great albums [D] in the [Fm] late [Am] 60s, early 70s
This [G] is Cold Fact, his debut [F] album
Didn't get any attention really whatsoever [G] in the States
But he did a [F] cult following in [G] Mexico, Central America, South America and Africa over time
[F] And [G] it was enough time to get some of the credit [F] he deserves
But yeah, this first album, [G] Cold Fact, is a great mix of old [Bb] rock [F] and hard [Ab] rock and psychedelic
[D]
[G] Let's check it out
Okay, the Bob [F] Seger system
[E] Bob Seger, also [G] from Ann Arbor
Formed this band in 1966 as Bob Seger and the Last Herd
And then of course went on to big success with the Silver Bullet Band
Not a huge fan of the Silver [Gbm] Bullet stuff, in fact it kind of gets on my nerves
But [Em] back in the day it was [A] a good, [G] you know, hard garage [N] rock, blues rock kind of band
And it was [Gb] legitimate
And of course I guess it [G] had to be a big [N] stinger
A lot of hits, it kind of sucked, but this is when the man was rocking it
All right, another band that had a lot of hits, Grand Funk Railroad
These guys came out of Flint, Michigan, 1968
Heavy, heavy blues rock
[Gm] They [Ab] had a big [Gb] American born in the country
And they [Eb] became a big arena rock sensation
[F] Blew a lot of people's eardrums, they're supposedly the [G] loudest band
Playing a [Fm] lot of time
[Bbm] [G] I think Cahoo [Gbm] might dispute that
[Em] All [A] right, Alice [D] Cooper
You [G] know, glam rock, shock rock pioneer
[Ab] He [N] came out of [Am] Detroit, March 1964
[G]
With the ear wigs, and then they changed their name [Gb] a couple [G] times
And finally settled [C] on Alice Cooper
[Ab] Gained a lot of attention [N] for the theatrical live show
And a string of hits, [G] a string of popular albums
From all over the [C] country, toward the world
[D] And started glam [E] rock
[G] [C]
[Eb] [Ebm] Ah yes, the Mighty Funk Stella
[Ab]
[Ebm] One [A] of the [Eb] most popular rock Stella bands
[Bb]
[Eb] Very cool, very heavy, very [Gb] out there
Of [Eb] course, [Ab] changed their name, had a couple different incarnations
Pete Long, [G] Marlon Man, Pete was an all star
And George Quentin went [N] on to have a successful solo career
But back in the late 60s, early 70s
These guys were, there was nothing like them
They were completely original, completely outrageous Completely [D] rockin'
[Eb]
[Gb] This album's mega-brilliant, it's a [E] must
[Bb] All right, MC5, the Motor City Five
From [Ab] Detroit, 1966 they formed
[E] Came [N] out with their first album, a live album
They had a reputation [G] for putting on a wild live show
And this album [Gb] captured it
[N]
These guys were so energetic and so hard and so rockin'
They changed rock and roll
[F]
And there's this note, you can [N] hear it
Handful of albums, all great
[Eb]
But live, rock, [F] so hard
And [Gbm] yeah, rock and roll was never [F] the same after this
It could never be the same, [N] this kind of stuff
[Gb]
So, yeah
[Db] [Eb]
[G] All [A]
right, and at number one, I got The Stooges
Formed in 1967, [Bb] also [F] out of Ann [Bb] Arbor, [A] Michigan
These guys, [Gm] along with the MC5 and a lot of these guys
[A] These guys [Eb] especially [Gb] changed rock and roll forever
Were one of the front [A] runners of rock music
They pretty much started the whole thing in the late 60s
When a lot of stuff was really, I mean, it was either blues rock or psychedelic
[Ab] I mean, it definitely [D] had [A] influences of that
But it was something [Ab] all its own
[Gm] It was so raw and so [A] primal
It was something so amazing
And, you [Am] know, these years, 1966, 1972
[N] Was a really fertile time for rock and roll
And a really fertile place, Detroit, Michigan
And they changed music forever
[C] [A]
[Gbm] All [C]
