Chris
okay that was awkward.
Why do I make things so awkward for?
I'm just trying to like
just say the [B] thing.
[Ab] What's up guys?
Today's [Bbm] lesson is going to be The [Am] Scientist by [Bb] Coldplay.
This is
[Ab] actually a patron winner video [A] for Crystal.
I will put her [Ab] picture right here.
She actually won
my monthly tutorial [D] giveaway on Patreon, so Crystal this video is for you and I [Ab] hope that you enjoy it.
Alright starting off we are in standard tuning with a capo here on the third fret and we have
just four chords in the song.
Our first one, you're just gonna love me for this, we have a [D] B minor.
[Ab] Our next chord is a G [Bb] major.
[Ab] We have a D major [F] and
[Bb] an A [C] major.
[Ab] Alright on the strumming patterns
there are three that I like to use in the song.
The first one is down down down down up.
So with
a chord we [F] have down down down down up down down down down up.
[Ab] The next pattern is actually the
easiest and this sometimes occurs at the end of like a line or a verse.
Sometimes you'll see it
pop up.
You can use it wherever you'd like.
It's just a simple down strum.
[F]
[Ab] And then the last pattern
is something that you don't have to use but it's an option I really like and it's down down down
down up down up down down down up.
So with the chord [F]
I'll take it a little slower.
Down down down
down up down up down down down up.
[Dbm] Alright so that's it for chords and for [B] strumming.
Real
quick I just want to let you guys know I do have [N] a principal lesson for the scientist.
It's available
on my Patreon page which I will link down below for you guys.
Crystal is actually a patron and
that is how she won this song tutorial.
So if you would like to have the lyrics and chords together
as well as the strumming patterns this is an awesome resource to have.
It's only three dollars
a month to join.
If you want access to my principal lessons you'll have not only just this
principal lesson but any principal lesson that I post for all of my tutorials.
So it's definitely
an amazing deal and you also get a chance to win a monthly song tutorial of your choice and you get

And the best part is that it helps me to be able to continue putting
free video lessons out here on YouTube for you guys as a full-time career.
[D] Come [Bb] back to me
[F]
[C]
[D]
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[D]
[Bb] I'm just cutting out my singing here so that way you guys can hear the guitar.
[F]
[C]
One more time for the progression [D] then
[Bb]
[F]
[C] we go to the chorus of the G major.
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
Oh take me back [F] to the star.
[Bb] This is just a little interlude here [Dm] and
[C]
then we're going to go into the
second verse [D]
[Bb]
[F] same as the first.
[C]
[N] So you go ahead and you play that progression four [C] times B minor
[F] G major [C] D major A major four times for the second [D] verse.
So like I said it's exactly the same as the
first.
So now we're going to go ahead and jump into the [Db] second chorus which is played exactly
the same as the first [N] but there's this I don't want to call it an interlude it's more of like
an outro that kind of like fades out and it's very different.
So I'll go ahead and start from the top
of the second chorus and carry out the rest of the [B] song.
All right starting at the top [Bb]
[F]
[C] of the
bar.
[Bb]
Nobody said it was easy.
[F]
No one ever [C] said it would be so hard.
I'm going back to [F] the star.
[Bb] So this one's different because the D and the G repeat [F] and
[Bb] then the first pattern [D] B minor
[Bb] G major [F] D major [C] A major
[D]
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[D]
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[D]
One [Bb]
[F]
[C] more time
[D]
[Bb]
[F]
and then you [C] can end on A major if you want to.
[G] And [D] that is how you play The Scientist by Coldplay.
I'm sorry if it [A] didn't sound exactly [D] perfect.
I'm playing with some fingerless gloves because
it's really cold out here [A] and so they may have [D] gotten in the way of my playing a little bit.
But nevertheless I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial.
If you did give it a huge thumbs up
and especially Crystal [G] I hope that you really enjoyed your winning [D] video.
Thank you so much
for being a patron and supporting me.
If you would like [G] to join Patreon I will have a link down below
