[E] Hey what's up you guys, Marty Schwartz here with Marty Music.
We're gonna learn the Rolling Stones
Beast of Burden right now.
If you haven't yet I appreciate you subscribing here to the Marty
Music YouTube channel and then also if you're trying to get deeper into learning guitar I have
free courses at my website that I think will help you so check those links down below.
Let's get to
it.
Alright so I did some research and this uh what I have found is that this is actually a Keith
Richard standard tuning riff.
So I'm going to teach it to you in standard tuning.
I'm sure it
can be done in Open G as well but we'll do standard tuning and I think one of the tricks of this riff
it's really a chordal riff but if you just knew the basic bar chords first I think it really helps
with the riff part.
So [C#m] [A]
[E] [C#m] [A]
[E] [B] [C#m]
[A] [E] [C#m]
[A] that's E [E] major and I'm playing this A shaped bar chord so seventh fret
A string [B]
then to [E] B major [B]
then [C#m] up a whole step minor so that would be C sharp minor
but the final chord is actually A major.
[A] [E] E, [B] E, [C#m] C sharp minor, A.
[E]
[C#m] [E]
[Bm] [E] [C#m]
[B] [C#m]
[E] [C#m]
[E] [B] [C#m]
[A] [E]
So you're gonna want to form [B]
a B major bar chord but really we're gonna just play the upper register
of it and
[E]
[B] you have to be able to hammer on your so you're playing so [E] [B]
I'm holding that shape I play
this little triad [E] and then I flatten my ring finger across [B] the it's already on the D string but I
flatten it across the G and B on that ninth fret [E]
[B] and then on the upbeat it goes back to B.
[E] [B]
[E] [B] [C#m]
Then it's the C sharp minor but I'm just playing this little triad so that's 11th fret and then
9th fret across the B and G or just barring it across [E] but there's this great inversion of A
major in the same spot [A] it would also look a lot like F sharp minor 7 but it's over an A note
so that's 11th fret on the D string I'm barring still you know that's still there from the chord
before so [B] now I'm hammering that D string [A] and I'm adding that middle finger to the 10th fret B
[B] and my ring finger I can kind of track to go back down to the 9th fret [E]
[B] [C#m]
[A] [E]
[B] [C#m] [A]
[E] it's like [E] and one
[C#m] [A]
[E] [C#m]
[E] [C#m]
[E]
[C#m] [A] now on the very first one [E] [A] you know [B] there's some of that [E] so [B]
[E] [B] if you want to nail that first one I
[E] would hammer [Bm] down down and then a scratch so [E]
[B] the scratch is on the down and then the up is back to
that B [E] and [B] [E]
[B]
[C#m] that ring finger can track right to the 11 that's barred across then you stab that
chord then hammer that D string [A]
and you add the middle finger delayed so [E] [C#m]
[A] [E]
[C#m] [B]
[C#m] [E]
[B] [C#m] [A] [E]
[A] then there's the B
section so for the change what I would play since there's more than one guitar going on in the
arrangement it's an A chord and
[E] then an E major back
[A] to A major E [E] major then [B] B major a
[E] [C#m] [A] couple
things though you can add for the A major you can relax that B and high E string [E] and then for the
E major you could play the E bar chord I mean I'm sorry the E power chord and let that B and high E
ring out for that too so
[A] [E]
[A]
[E] [B]
and on that B chord you can let those the open B and high E ring out too
just to add a little a bit of that flavor [E] all [A] [C#]
[A] [E]
[B] [C#m] [A]
