I mean, how do you describe tone?
[E]
[F] [B]
[Db] [B] You want the high end to be bright, but you don't want it to be piercing.
[E]
You [A] want the low end to [E] be deep, but you don't want it to be dark and muffled sounding.
[Dm] [Em] [E]
[D] [Dbm] [D] All of [E] these things have just been [E] kind of figured out here.
Where the [A] weight's right, the neck [Em] is kind of perfect.
Everything is there.
[E] Hi, [G] I'm Robin Ford and very happy to finally introduce the [A] PRS Robin Ford Limited Edition
McCarty Model Guitar.
[G]
[A]
[Gbm] [F] I think I met Paul [Em] when I really first started touring on my own, which would have been like 1989.
Paul was clearly very [G] driven to make fine instruments.
I had been to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. and seen they had one of his guitars.
[E] And it was truly [Ebm]
one of the [Gm] most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
A dragon fretboard, I think, something like that.
When I look at my experiences, I've been through so many guitars.
If I were to cite one thing about any instrument, it's [Gbm] playability.
[Em] Paul has gone way out of his way, [Ab] it seems to me, to do the right thing for the guitarist,
[E] for the person he's making a guitar for.
[A] I don't know anybody who's [Dbm] making guitars that are as playable, [A] just like immediately playable.
[Gbm] And that is [D] really the thing that made me want to go [A] deeper.
[E] Corporations, they don't come anywhere near [G] the artist's attention that Paul [E] gives us
in making instruments for us and really getting them right.
[Bm]
[B] [A]
[E] So these [Abm] are the Robin Ford pickups [Ab] designed by Paul.
Making these pickups was a bit of a journey.
I have to empathize [G] for anyone trying to create [Bm] for somebody what they're [A] hearing.
Because all of us hear differently.
And minor things [G] are huge for the artist.
[G] And it takes that [Em] kind of willingness to work with the [E] artist that Paul [Em] has [D] demonstrated.
[Em]
As far as sound [A] goes, I like a sound that can be [E] loud and clear.
Single coil [Db] pickups, they [G] have a clarity [Em] that humbucking pickups can kind of overrule.
[B] [A] So we worked for that kind of clarity [B] in these pickups.
[A] And I do believe we got there.
[E] [Em] [E]
[Ab] All [C] the clarity is there.
It's punchy still.
It's [A] thick enough.
You know, there's a nice [E]
even sound going on [Eb] here.
So I'm very happy with that.
[G] This seal, we refer to it as the dojo seal.
[Eb] It's kind of our logo for the Robin [C] Ford Guitar Dojo.
And it was just a [G] great notion to actually use it on the guitar.
I'm just really happy with it.
[Am]
[Eb] The specs are pretty straight ahead.
You know, humbucking pickups, double cut, solid body, [E] standard [N] pickup switch.
And I like having this [A] coil splitter.
Something that I've used a lot over the years because it helps me replicate single coil
pickups a little bit better.
Paul signed the front of the headstock and I've signed the back plate.
We have [G] here also the Paul Reed Smith stop tailpiece.
I gotta say, this has been, I think, my favorite thing that Paul has come up with.
They just sound better to me than, you know, the standard stop tailpiece and all of that.
[Bb] I mean, that's another thing I can easily say about Paul.
I think he's the only guy innovating out there, really.
I mean, everybody else, I don't know.
People try to do different things, but [E] the only guy who's actually coming up with real
results in my opinion is Paul.
[Bb] [Gbm] [Ab]
[E] [D] [Dbm] The best part of the [A] relationship [Bb] with PRS has [A] been that just incredible willingness
to just keep [Ab] refining and looking deeper and trying this and [Eb] trying that.
Man, [E] that is just [Gb] priceless.
[Bb] I mean, I've been doing this for a very long time.
And you just don't get it [A] anywhere else, you know.
[E]
It's incredible, actually.
[A] [G] [B]
[Db] [A] [E]
[Bb] [E] [Dbm]
[E] [Am] [Bb]
