That was [C#m] of course the intro to Jackson Brown's The Road, second track of his Running On Empty album.
It's actually my favorite track of the album, so about time that I got to it.
There are like three [N] performances of this song on YouTube, well, I only found three.
There is the live, I mean the original recording, which is a live performance, one by himself,
a half step down, and then there's one with David Lindley, bad quality though, so I didn't
check it much.
However, it did show me that he plays this quite randomly, so you should do the same.
Chord progression is quite easy, the chords [G] as well, it's really like a G [Em] and an E [Am] minor
and an A [C] minor and a C major, [Bm] a G with a V in the [G] bass, kind of about it.
A couple of [C#m] unusual chords maybe in the [Em] intro, well, E minor isn't a bar chord from the A
family like [Am] this, but maybe A minor 7 like this is A minor 13, [D] like that, [C#] or a C sharp
minor 7 flat 5, if you're a beginner, I'm sure you haven't played this one before, [C] C
major 7, well, [D#] I will show you all the chords which are in the song.
Then for the picking hand, it's really a basic Travis picking style arrangement.
The only thing which is really really important is the alternating [E] bass notes.
Keep those going, like with every chord.
1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, [G] 4, C.
[D#] We [C#m] of course take a close look at the picking hand, but I do encourage you to play this
[G] randomly, make the song your own.
However, variations, I did write out a couple of those in the tablature that I will talk about.
Then something else, there are only like 3 main parts, intro, [G#] verse, chorus, couple of interludes,
and that's it.
So, you should get this one down in no time, especially if you're able to Travis pick.
Okay, [C#m]
let's get to it.
