What really inspired Miranda Lambert's Vice?
We got one of the songwriters on the line to get the scoop.
[Ab] Vice co-writer Josh Osborne tells Taste of Country that he and Shane McAnally had never written with
[G] Miranda Lambert before, [D] so one year ago when they walked into the room [F] they were like,
[G] so [D] what's going on?
Fortunately Lambert recognized they were wearing kids gloves and said,
take them off boys, everything's on the table.
Lambert added that, if you have an idea I don't
I'll let you know about it.
Basically [A] she was like, don't feel [C] like you have to walk on eggshells,
like we can we can lay it all out on the table and [F] see what feels like a real emotion.
This was
[G] right after her [C] divorce from Blake Shelton became public.
[F] Osborne said Lambert was sad,
but [Em] accepting of the [Dm] reality of the situation, he says he was once again [Am] reminded that even
though [Bb] some of Nashville's biggest [F] stars become tabloid fodder, [Bb] there's still real people
underneath.
[B] Yeah she was hurting, but she used it to write some great [Eb] songs.
[Bb] Thumbs up if you
can't wait to hear more.
So the scoop.
Osborne [G] says he thinks McAnally may have come up with the
idea of Vice, but Lambert was in [D] charge of the write.
She has a great sense of what she will
and won't say, what she will and won't sing, what kind of melodies work for her voice, and I will
tell you this, no hyperbole, she is an amazing songwriter.
Vice is the debut single from Lambert's
next studio [A] album, something Osborne wasn't aware of until just days before it was released to
[D] He says it connects because people can relate to being [F] slaves to their [B] vices,
but also [C] because there's that tabloid [F] curiosity.
It's written so much on the line of [Dm] it could be
real or it could be a [A] character.
We [C] purposely and will continue to leave that open to interpretation.
Rats.
Okay, fair enough.
He could have other [E] songs on the record [Eb] too.
Very few [Gb] details have been made
public, even [Bb] to him.
A song called Records I Never Heard was rumored to be the [Bb] first single,
and even [C] the title of Lambert's [B] new album.
Osborne [D] says he doesn't even know if Lambert ever recorded
it.
