I have heard [F] all the land.

Keith came up with the [D] idea of [Eb] getting [F] Mamo in a conversation and [Bb] recording it in his
studio [Eb] there at the house.
And we thought it was a great idea and we got Mamo in there and we told her [Bb] what we was doing.
We told her we was going to record her.
[G] Well, she got nervous and she wouldn't talk.
So we got her in there again.
But this time we didn't tell her that we had the tape roller.
[Bb] And boy, she talked about Pawpaw.
She [Eb] talked about the songs she loved to hear.
She talked about so many good things and memories.
I remember she kept saying, now Michael, Michael.
[F] And she just opened up so, so great.
Shortly after that, we found out she [Bb] had cancer.
[B] And it was in her voice box.
And the doctor said there's no way [D] to save it.
They had to remove it.
[F] So as they were willing, [Gm] Mamo to surgery.
[Bb] My dad, as usual, being late, [G] just made it before she went into surgery.
And he asked her, he said, Mamo, could you sing Never Grow Old for me [Bb] before you leave?
[F] And she did.
[Gm] [G] Right after the surgery, she wrote me a letter.
And I've still got it in my desk at [C] home.
And the letter says this.
[E]
[F] Said, Mike, I may [G] never, ever [F] be able to talk again while I'm living down here.
[Bb] She said, when I get to heaven, I'm going to sing and [A] shout louder than any of you [G] grandchildren.
She said, when I get to heaven, there's not going to be any more pain or sorrow or tears.
She said, when I get there, I'll be waiting for you [C] kids and your grandkids to be there.
[Bb] Shortly after that, [F] Mamo passed away.
[G] [F]
[C] How [F] long ago, how long ago did you first hear that song?
[Bb]
And [F] you say you used to go to singing [C] conventions?
We'd go to our home church up over there [F] upon the [C] mountain in our new home.
And [F] we'd go to church right down, just to blow the house down a couple of miles.
But they would always [Bb] sing Never Grow Old.
And then they'd sing, [F] they would sing In The Sleep By And By.
And lots of different songs, Michael.
I used to sing that real good.
And like I used to sing, I'll Fly Away.
And my memory's bad.
My [Bb] memory's getting dim.
And I can't think of things too much anymore.
But [C] I'm thankful.
Is that your favorite song, Never Grow Old?
Yes.
And I'll read [F] this one verse right here.
Sook me good and anything.
When our work here is done, and our life crown is worn, and our troubles and our trials [Bb] are over,
all our [Fm] sorrows will end, Michael.
[F] And our voices will blend with the loved ones [C] [F] who's gone on before.
Now, that's the verse I like, Michael, [Bb] because you and Lorraine [F] yourself,
there's something precious going on.
And Michael, [G] if you want to listen to me, [C] I'll never lay down at night but what I don't pray
[C] to my God and my Savior [F] to keep me.
And then, Michael, when I get up at morning [Bb] and see the light, Michael, [F] I look up towards
heaven and I say, thank you, Jesus, for letting [C] me see another day.
[F] And Michael, there's [C] one thing I want you children to know.
What's that?
[F] I want you to know that [C] I guess [F] that I'm the happiest grandmother.
I [Bb] guess I'm just about as the happiest grandmother that ever [F] lived.
[C] Because I'll tell you why.
My [F] grandchildren is [C] a servant of living
where we'll never grow old, never grow
[F]
[Fm]
old.
I have heard [F] all the land.
