I want to say like maybe 2007 or 8.
It was called Chubbs Fest in Dayton, Ohio.
And I have a friend, Lil' Zach, in Columbus, Ohio, and he said,
Yo, you want to come to this show?
And I had just recently gotten to Hardcore.
My dad was like, OK, you can go.
It's 60 miles from home.
And so this band Mental from Boston, Greg Wilmont, grabbed me and said,
Yo, you want to come to the show?
They put me in the van and took me to the show.
On the bill was Mental, Righteous Jams, Dump Truck played in the middle of their set,
and then One Live Crew, Ringworm, and Heavyweights.
And it was probably the most insane thing I've ever seen in my life.
I've never seen like everything from the Mental, Dump Truck, Righteous Jams,
stop, like half-tempo music, to [N] One Live Crew people just basically just fighting.
I want to say, I want to say Terror was on the bill as well,
because it was like a crazy all-day, all-day affair.
It was probably the coolest thing, most memorable part of Hardcore history in my life, in my personal book.
That's tough to answer from over here.
I never went, but I mean, I'm sure it's at the top of everybody's list.
CBGB's was the coolest, had to be the coolest.
I was a little too young to come over this way for it.
But there was a club at home that always, in Ohio, it was called the High Five,
and they would, big or small, would put on any Hardcore show,
and it was like our little hangout hut, and it turned into a taco place, and now it's gone.
So I mean, I guess it's a similar tale to things in this neighborhood.
Like property value goes up, and you lose the club that's home for all your punk rock needs.
I live on the shore.
There's a lot of, man, there's like a lot of people from the area that I live in now,
I mean, Brett, a lot of people in Get Real.
I spend a lot of time on the eastern seaboard.
To be honest with you, like from a New York figure that, since this is the New York one, New York version,
I think Hoya is probably the funniest person that I've been around.
Like every time I played with him, from him just grabbing me to get like a snack,
or grab an apple for him to smoke some bud from, or just him knowing my name and calling me Kid.
Like you're just Kid, no matter what.
I think that he might be the funniest person I know in Harcourt.
I'm actually, I've been adopted into a few cities on the eastern seaboard just from coming around.
Like Trapped Under Ice took me under their wing and showed me, they showed me in the entire world,
so I mean, I have to shout them out.
Thank you so much for like life in general.
But I think that like, there's a whole connection there.
Like people in Richmond would come to Bricktown, where I'm from, on the shore.
And there was a whole gang of people there who straight up just live by their own rules.
Like, will take an apple, eat it, throw it at you, play a Harcourt show, help you up off the ground.
And I think just being so close to coming here in the city, and like the generation of just a bit before me,
they were the ones that like solidified the bond that grew from the youth up here,
connecting with the youth in Brick, that connected to the youth in Richmond,
that all just cultivated a blossoming relationship that still grows to this day,
all the way down to younger bands that play from our area.
Yeah, I mean, they're not even necessarily new.
I recently just saw this band in Florida, our singer Brendan and drummer Daniel
and the singer of Angel Dust and Trapped in Rice Justice.
We decided that we want to be hands on, do our own thing and start a label.
And they got this band that they just put out called Slow Fire Pistol, and they rock really hard.
I love that band.
That's easy.
David Wood from Down to Nothing and Terror.
Jared from Trapped Under Ice.
I can't even, that's not even just for bass, but just for style in general.
Have you looked at anybody playing a stringed instrument in Biohazard?
Like not even just like the guitar style, their clothing style.
I don't know them personally, but like just the way they carried themselves, like when they grabbed their instrument,
it's just like, dang, I can't believe this man is playing this intricate part while doing a damn 720 in the air and on the ground.
Hands down, 100% Bad Brain CBGB82.
[C#m] That's the best, I mean, the dynamic of people in the room.
Like I just got goosebumps just thinking about it.
I watched the video the other day, like just the style, like slamming to a song
and then just grabbing somebody and listening to a dub song that they just decided to just break out to it improvisionally.
That was, you don't see that, you probably won't ever see that again.
Hopefully just continue having fun.
We're going to continue to have our own little label on the side and keep creating bands with turnstile.
I think we're going to work on a new record.
We've been working on some demos, just try to keep it exciting and forward.
Progress is progress and the older you get, as long as it's not backwards, it's good.
That's how I feel about our band.
If I were to say something, I mean, I say this to my younger friends now.
I mean, I'm not much older than them, but think for yourself and don't be afraid to question.
Don't be afraid to ask or learn or go [B] seek some knowledge or even dig in a history book and see what happened before you.
So you don't make the same mistake or you learn something new and you can elaborate and create something yourself.
Nah.
That is a question I'm like, if it weren't coming from you, I'd be offended to have asked me.
Because hardcore is just like everything else.
It grows and if you don't dig to find it, then you don't have the desire to learn about it in the first place.
