And I saw the [D] sign, and it opened up [A] my eyes.
I saw the sign.
No one's gonna drag you up [G] to get into the [A] light.
Where do you belong?
[Gb] I saw the sign, [D] and it opened up my eyes.
I saw the sign.
Love is demanded without [A] understanding.
Yeah, I saw the sign, and [G] it opened up my [A] eyes.
I saw [D] the sign.
And no one's gonna drag you up.
Hey!

[E] John Darnielle.
And Rachel Ware.
[B] It [E] was really nice.
I liked it a lot.
I liked it better than I thought [D] I might because it went really smoothly.
[A] And I saw Simon Joyner put on a great show [Ab] and Bill Doreen was a genius [Dbm] and Beck was magnificent.
[B] And [G] I just really enjoyed myself.
Yes, I [N] did.
The Mountain Goats formed in 1991 in Norwalk, California.
Began recording and performing in Claremont about six months later.
Narrowed down from a five-person unit to a two [A]-person unit about a year ago.
And that's the history basically.
The artist to whom I feel most related would be Joni Mitchell and Tanita Tickeram.
Michael [Eb] McDonald.
Yeah, actually, yes.
I'm a big Michael McDonald fan.
But performance-wise, I don't feel related to a lot of those people because I [Eb] think we have a more post-punk take on performance.
More of a consciousness of what it is to [Ab] perform in a club in front of an audience
and to be part of something that has a sort of cool on it [Ebm] that those artists have always disdained.
And I think [Eb] cool is not necessarily a bad thing.
[E] I don't think a career in [B] music is any way to live.
[E] So, yeah, I [B] mean, I want to teach.
I think it's important to be a real person.
And music is a different aspect, an important aspect of life.
But not, you know, [E] I [B] wouldn't want to live like musicians [E] live.
I just couldn't do that.
The future looks bright for the Mountain Goats.
Our new album Sweden will be released within the month.
Following that, in the fall, nothing for juice on Ajax Records and Compact Discs.
