[Eb] When punk rock [N] started like throbbing gristle and talking heads you couldn't tell what punk rock was.
It was all different things, free things.
And we wanted it to be our weird [Am] thing.
[G] [A]
[G] [A]
[N] We never wrote our own songs to punk rock, see?
We never knew you could.
I don't know, why did we do that?
We wrote our own song.
Why did we?
We just, you know.
No one else did there.
We never took a class in songwriting, I guess.
And then when we heard these [Bb] other lame dudes writing songs, it was like, oh [Db] man, we can do this.
[E] [Ab]
[E]
[N] We sounded like a hundred other bands, so we wanted to get our own style and purged
all our rock, even though that's what we come from.
We did this real perverted format, like no solos, no choruses.
This was a way to get our own style.

We set out to make the press like us, I guess.
It just happened that way.
[Ebm] I think they like the idea of us [E] more maybe than the tunes.
You talk to these guys and they don't know any of our songs.
I start talking to them about the songs in an interview and they don't even know them.
[Eb]
Some dudes I know they know about them because they'll talk about them in the stories, but
I've talked to these guys, man, and they don't even know the tunes.
They don't talk about what's come out of Speaker.
They like ideas.
It's three average guys who work and live in Pedro.
[G]
[E]
[B] We
[D]
[N] push ourselves, but we don't push what we're doing to the point where we don't like it.
We like playing, so it mainly revolves around doing gigs.
We've been all the time in the world.
We don't have much.
You work a nine to five job, you've got the nights off.
We're not on no mission to become big rock stars or anything.
We're pretty casual about it.

[N] Music, to us, just playing, it always has been.
Now we have this niche that we can put out records and people will buy them.
It's great.
Everybody should do it.
There should be a rock band in every block because it can happen.
