Hello everyone, this is going to be a tutorial on how to play For-Fra by the Lumineers.
So very basically
what's going to be happening in
your left and right hands is you're going to be playing this basic chord progression where we're going to start with
a B and then go to F sharp minor in the first inversion, an E in the second version, and then a C sharp minor and root.
And so really quickly, so what you're going to do in your left hand is
so first you're going to be playing a B chord, and this is just standard root position and
then you'll next move to a F sharp minor in [F#m] the first inversion.
So here it is.
So this would be root, and then we go up to first inversion.
We're going to be playing an E in the [E] second version, which is right here.
So here's the root.
We walk up first inversion, second inversion.
Then to end it we'll be [C#m] playing a C sharp minor in root position right there.
[B] And so now I'm going to show you the basics for the right hand.
Really just for like rhythm and what notes to play, I would just recommend
listening to the actual song as many times as you need to get this down.
But so I'll play out the the first introduction fairly slowly.
So you're going to be
[C#]
[F#] [E]
[B] [C#]
[E] [B]
And if you notice, I really was only playing four notes in my right hand.
I was playing a B, C sharp, D sharp, and an F sharp.
These are really the only notes that you will need to be playing in your right hand.
And so for the very first introduction, a lot of it is just these single notes.
You don't get into octaves yet, but right when the song starts picking up,
you're going to actually start playing octaves.
And so we'll see how that goes.
So the beginning of the song, it's a
[D#] [E]
[B]
[E] And notice how I didn't actually go to the C sharp minor in that introduction.
It doesn't introduce that until it starts picking up.
And so I actually just cut off [B] right before it picks up.
So I'm going to resume where I started playing.
And you're going to start [C#] octaves here.
[E] [C#m] So that's where the first C sharp minor comes in.
[B] [F#m]
[E] [B]
[C#] [E] [C#m]
[B] [E]
[C#m] [E] And so now that's right before the bridge.
And notice most of all I was playing in my right hand was just repeated the same pattern.
So you'll [B] go up.
I'm sure you can figure out those patterns.
So now after you do just like that first primary introduction part,
where you're [F#m]
[E] [C#m] going to fly your hands [E] down here.
And now we're going to be playing these chords for this little bridge section.
So you're going to be playing a B in the second inversion,
an E in first [B] inversion and a G sharp minor in root.
And what that looks like is you're going to be playing it just below middle C.
[G#m]
[B] Right.
So B in second inversion, this would be root.
One, two.
[E] E in first inversion right here.
[G#m] And G sharp minor root chord.
And you're just going to be playing the accompanying octave [B] bass notes.
So B [E] in the bass, E in the bass [G#m] and G sharp in the bass.
And the [F#] rhythm for this is, [B] oh man.
[G#m]
But there's like a little hint of a swing in the actual recording.
A little hard to describe, but honestly, just try [G] to feel it out as best as you [B] can.
[G#m] [B]
[E] [G#m]
And you just repeat twice and then you're back up in the upper area doing the same chord
progressions, the same [B] thing.
[E]
[C#m] [B] [F#m]
[E] [C#m] [B]
[E] [C#]
[E] Now, actually, the ending, you're going to be playing it a little bit different.
[B] So after you come down from [E] right, so you'll be playing these with your E in the left
hand and you're actually going to go up to C sharp and [Em] you're going to be playing E
minor in your left hand.
This creates a lot of [C#] dissonance to end the song.
[Em] Then I end just very structurally and just leave it open at the end.
And that's really all there is.
Thanks for watching.
