Well Connie's standing by waiting for me to get ready to do a video tonight and I'm kind of like my dad.
I don't like to be rushed.
However, I'm just reminiscing through the 40s and 50s and the 60s.
[D] I remember [G] cities and [D] auditoriums were synonymous with gospel music.
If you had [C] tickets for [D] Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth, Texas, the Keele Opera House [C] in St.
Louis, the Ellis [D] Auditorium in Memphis, Tennessee,
you knew you was going to see [C] some of the greatest gospel [D] singers and gospel music.
And of course, here tonight, Reynolds [C] Auditorium, [D] is where I was first introduced to this gospel music.
[G] I heard these songs [D] sung in church from the [A] hymnals, but it was just something different, [G] the way the full part harmony, [D] as these groups presented this music that night.
As I listened to [G] the Statesmen and the Blackwood [D] Brothers and Happy Edwards and the Homeland [A] Harmoneers, [G] and then there was the Spear [D] family.
And I'm telling you, when Dad Spear began to [A] walk the stage and rub his hand through his white [G] hair, it was [D] life changing for [G] me.
It was [D] a music of rhythm [A] and uplifting and it's been [G] a wonderful, wonderful journey.
And I'd like [D] to say to you tonight, as you [Bm] listen and as you [G] watch this on video [A] or DVD, I hope that this [D] music will affect you as it did with me over 50 years ago.
[C]
[D] If you see your brother [G] standing [D] by the road With a [A] heavy load [G] from the [D] seeds he sowed
If you see your sister [G] falling [D] by the way Just stop [A] and say, [G] you're going [D] the wrong way
You've [A] got to try a little kindness [G] Show a [D] little kindness
[G] Just shine your light [D] for everyone [A] to see And [G] if you try a little kindness
[D] You will all be [Bm] left blind [G] next Narrow [A]-minded people [G] on the narrow [D]-minded street
[C] [D]
Don't walk [G] around this town [D] down and out Lend [A] a helping [G] hand instead [D] of doubt
And the kindness [G] that you show [D] every day Is going to [A] help someone [G] [D] along the way
You've [A] got to try a little [G] kindness Show a [D] little kindness
[G] Just shine your [D] light for everyone [A] to see And [G] if you try a little kindness
[D] You will all be [Bm] left blind [G] next Narrow [A]-minded people [Bm] on the narrow [D]-minded street
