[G] [C]
Me and my buddy got us a [F] wild hair and figured we wanted to go somewhere, [G] so we loaded up
my rag [C]-top Chevrolet.
We had a little bit of money and a whole lot of [F] shows with Hank Jr.
blaring on the [G] radio.
We got a tank full of gas and we was [C] on our way.
We figured we'd go down to New [F] Orleans and we was barreling down on 17 [G] when a man with
a blinking red light [C] was on our tail.
He said, you were doing 60 in a 45, [F] but I'm going to let you go this [G] time, but if I get
you again, I'm going to slap you in [C] the cowdy jail.
We said, thank you, sir, you sure bent [F] nice and you ain't going to have to tell us [G] why,
so we was southbounding down with the wind [C] blowing in our faces.
We kept on rolling and pretty [F] soon the radio was cooking out a haggard [G] tune and we were
pulling into Houston to check it out, [C] all them places.
I was feeling dry and I said, I [F] think we ought to stop and get ourselves a drink.
[G] Old Jim said, yeah, because we got [C] time to kill.
We kept on rolling and I seen this [F] spot and we pulled into the parking lot of [G] this place
called the Cloud [C] Nine Bar and Grill.
We walked through the door and the place was [F] jammed, the lights were low, they had a punk
rock [G] band and some orange-haired fellas singing about [C] suicide.
I said, Jim, this ain't our kind of place.
[F] He said, well, let's just have one round anyway, [G] so against my better judgment, we walked [C] on inside.
Went up to the bar and we sat [F] down, this fella walked up and said, I'll buy this [G] round, and
he sat down on a bar stool [C] next to Jim.
He looked like a girl, but he talked like a [F] guy, had lipstick on and mascara in his
[G] eye and everybody in that place looked just [C] about like him.
I said, Jim, this ain't our kind of bar.
[F] Let's just go on out and get back in the [G] car because there's going to be trouble and there
ain't no sense in [C] taking a chance.
We was getting up, getting ready to [F] leave, somebody grabbed old Jim by the [G] sleeve of
this good-looking girl.
She was asking my [C] buddy to dance.
I said, Jim, don't do it.
There's something [F] missing.
There's fellas dancing and fellas [G] kissing.
There's a fella in a high-heeled shoe wearing [C] pantyhose.
He said, partner, I just can't turn this [F] down.
You just go over there and have one more [G] round.
I'll dance with the lady and we'll get on [C] down the road.
So he walked away and left me alone [F] and this funny-looking fella kept coming on [G] and he
was making me mad at some of the things [C] he said.
And then he put his hand on my knee.
I [F] said, if you don't get your paw off me, [G] I'm going to locate your nose around on the
[C] side of your head.
He said, I love it when you get that fire in your [F] eyes.
I said, well, partner, try this on for [G] size.
And I unloaded on him.
He went out like [C] a light.
Everybody in that place must have been his friend.
[F] They all headed for me.
I said, this is the [G] end, but where I come from, we don't give up [C] without a fight.
They were screaming and yelling, scratching and [F] clawing.
I was punching and hitting and kicking and [G] pawing.
I was holding my own because I'd been in a [C] scrap or two.
Old Jim come running up out of the blue and [F] that gal he was with come running up too [G] and
proceeded to beat on me with a high [C] heeled shoe.
I grabbed her by the hair and come off with my [F] hand and that beautiful girl was just a beautiful [G] man.
Old Jim just got sick right [C] there on the floor.
He dropped that dude like a shot from a [F] gun, smeared his lipstick, made his makeup [G] run,
and me and old Jim started fighting our [C] way to the door.
[A]
[D] Man, we let out of there in that Chevrolet [G] and I put her on the floor and she stayed that [A] way.

rear view [A] mirror and that same blame cop was pulling us [D] over again.
