The Black Keys - Interview (Bing Lounge) chords
Start Jamming...
[N] The Black Keys, Pink Lies at the Bing Lounge.
I feel like our new venue just got a new kind of merit badge [E] or something.
We've been rechristened.
Welcome.
Playing tonight again at the Crystal Ballroom.
And like most bands that get called stuff like best band in America, America's hottest band,
[A]
you guys are an overnight success.
Nine [E] years, six albums, two EPs, and a lot of shows in the making.
Are you happy that it's your [Bb] eighth record [N] instead of your first that kind of flipped the switch for you guys?
Yeah, we're really happy that we got to spend so much time in a minivan driving around America.
It was great, eating burgers and stuff.
Strengthened the character, that kind of stuff.
Uh-huh, yeah.
It was really worth it.
Yeah, we're better for it, I'm sure.
Broken individuals.
So how do you explain it?
What made this album catch on the way it has?
You got lightning in a bottle here.
We had a song on the radio.
That was it.
That was it.
Thank you, Dennis.
We keep getting called America's garage band, but technically your first couple of albums were recorded in a basement, right?
Yeah, we've never recorded in a garage.
For the record.
Yeah, for the record, we've never recorded in a garage.
It's always been in the basement [E] or an abandoned building or something like that.
Yeah, you stepped up from a basement to an abandoned factory in Akron, [F] Ohio, your hometown.
Do you think that [Ab] if maybe you were kidnapped [N] and forced to record in a state-of-the-art digital studio, you could still get the sound that you get?
This is a digital state-of-the-art studio, right?
And we're recording this, right?
That's a good point.
And our record label forced us to be here, so
By God, we're going to find out.
Listen at 3.30. this afternoon. I don't know. Yeah, it could happen. Well, Dan, you set up Akron Analog, which is your own analog studio. Kind of sounds like a dream studio for you. Does it turn out just the way you wanted it? Yeah, yeah. It's a fun place to hang out. It's my man cave. Lots of knobs and dials. So it was about your third album. You ended up with five songs, give or take, that were used in movies, commercials, video games, not just Grey's Anatomy, but big household name entertainments. Was there a weird moment when you realized that more and more people were going to hear you, but they wouldn't necessarily know who you were unless they looked it up somehow? I don't know. I think that we found that it really helps. Songs from our first record, we had a song called I'll Be Your Man. That's a theme song now for a show called Hung on HBO. We noticed the difference when we played it live. It was crazy. Before, not many people knew it, and now tons of people know it, and it's just because it's on the show. It's amazing. So people are hearing it. Yeah, and for us, for a band that never had a song played on the radio, really, it's an amazing help. And it sort of felt like us, that this must be what it feels like to have a song on the radio, sort of. People recognize your songs. It prepared you. It got you primed to pump. There's some great movies, too. Black Snake, Moan, and I forget what all. But you'd hear it in the trailer. You'd hear you guys. I always thought people were going, I love that song. I wonder who that is, because the trailer's not going to tell you. Yeah, but with the internet, it's so easy. Really, all you have to remember is one lyric, and search the movie and the lyric, and the song comes up. It's crazy. What was that song in that trailer? And there it is. Well, you've been touring pretty much nonstop. When was the last time you had some serious time off? A couple years ago. Really? Serious time off? Yeah. More than a couple of days. It's been a while. And your shows, this tour certainly, are selling out. Does it feel different when you take the stage, [Ab] besides the fact [Gb] that all the seats are full? No. We've been fortunate, and shows have been sold out since. It's been a gradual incline, an increase in audience. We've always had really great shows and really great fans. All that character building. Well, their second sold out show at the Crystal Ballroom is tonight. Let's hear some more. It's The Black Keys, kink live at the Bing Lounge. [N]
