[C#] Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here, right here at my very own project, Marty Music.
Thank you for the continued support, spreading the word, all that.
We've got a classic Beatles song right now.
We've got In My Life.
It's one of my favorite Beatles songs.
And we're going to zoom in, break it all down.
I kind of arranged it a little bit for [A] like if you're playing it by yourself.
So I think you'll like it.
So let's do it.
All right, so I have a little way to play the intro with a little bit of finger picking
and then the rest we're going to strum with a pick.
So we start with kind of holding this A chord down here.
I'm going to pinch the A string and the second fret of the B string.
Then pinky's going to go to the fifth fret of the high E and I'm still going to pinch
that A string.
So it'd sound like this.
You put those together and you have this.
And then still with pinching the A string and holding this A chord, I'm pinching the
second fret of the B with the open A, then middle finger on the third fret of the B [D] with
the open A, [A] and then pinky on the fifth of the B with the open A.
So you put that all together and it sounds like this.
[E]
And for that final chord there, I'm hitting the open E with my thumb and then I'm forming
a little D shape up a whole step, which would be E major.
And I'm not really strumming the other strings, but if you get them in there, it's nice.
And we're just focusing on the open E and that middle finger on the fourth fret of the
high E.
It's like this.
[E]
[A] [E]
One more time really [A] slow.
[F#m]
[A] [E]
[A] [E]
And then we have the song.
And we're going to start with an A major [A] chord to an E major.
So [E] we're going to go down, down, up, down, down, up.
So [A] A, E, [G#] then F sharp minor, so you're barring the second fret [F#] and it's a little E minor shape.
[A] [B] So it goes F sharp minor, and then I'm going to play instead of A major now, I'm going
to play a little [A] A7 for a little flavor.
So you have this.
A, [E] E, [F#m] F sharp minor, A7, then D, D minor, back to [D] A major.
So [Dm]
[D] that's the classic Beatles is the four chord major, four chord [Dm] minor, to the [A] one chord major.
If you don't know that theory stuff, that's [G] all right, but they use that all the time.
So [A] check it out.
[E]
[A] [E]
A, E, [F#m] F sharp minor, [A] and that A7 is anticipated.
[D#m]
So I have that strong downbeat, [A] then it goes to [F#m] the A7.
[A] D, [D] D minor, [A]
A major, starts over.
A, [E] E, [F#m] F sharp minor, [A] A7, [D] D, D [E] minor, [A] A major, and then there's just one other section of the songs.
[F] So the next section of the song, we can call it section B, it starts on that F sharp minor
and goes [F#m] to D.
So
[D] F sharp minor to D, [G] and then G.
[A]
So [F#m] check it out, here's that second section.
So F sharp minor [D] to D chord, [G]
G, [A] then A chord.
Then we do F sharp minor to [F#m] B7.
[B] [F#m] So you have F sharp minor, [B] and then the B7.
Second one, second, pinky on the second of the high E, and then that D, D minor, A, and
then you're right back at the intro.
[D] So from [A]
[E]
[A] [E]
the [D] top.
I'll walk you through it, do the progression.
Here we go.
[A] So A, [E] E, F sharp [Em] minor, A7, [D] D, [Dm] D minor, [A] A major, starts over again.
A, [E] E, F sharp minor, [Em] A7, [D] D, D minor, [A] back to A major.
Now F sharp minor.
F [F#m] sharp minor, then [D] the D chord, [G] then the G, back to the A, [F#] F sharp minor [B] to now B7,
[D] D, D minor, [A] back to the A.
[E]
[E]
[A] [E] [F#m]
[Em] [D] [A]
[E]
[Em] [D] [A]
[F#m] [D]
[G] [A]
[F#m] [B]
[D] [Dm] [A]
[E]
[A]
[E] And what you can do for that end,
[Em] [A] [G#m] and so I'm just going, 4, [Em] 2, O, [A] A, but what you can
do is if you do that one finger A chord, you can get that note up top there.
All right, that was the lesson.
I hope you enjoyed learning another Beatles tune.

G, [A] then A chord.
