Hey everybody, welcome to Lazy Meadow.
Welcome, wait let me do it again.
Hey everybody, welcome to Kate's Lazy Meadow.
Come on down.
It'll make you crazy, it'll make you wild.
It'll make you lazy, it'll make you smile.
Oh this smells so good.
Come on down.
Smell.
[C] Oh, [D] there's a great blue harem just flew [C] over.
[Gm]
[C] [Gm]
[C] [F] [G] I drove by, I saw for sale sign,
and I just thought, wow, that'd be a good investment.
To get a hotel.
And I came down here and there were these gold finches.
[B] I was just like, I was just enchanted.
I just thought, I have to have this.
But then, a lot of work had to be done,
especially not the fun [Gm] stuff like a septic system and [C] stuff.
My love shack is [Eb] a little.
[F]
[Ab] [Cm]
[G] Well [D] a lot of people say this is a love shack.
This Lazy Meadow is a love shack.
The idea of the love shack was just kind of a club out,
just like a shack out in the country
where anyone could go inclusive,
be sexy, be free, dance, sweat, have fun together.
If you're [C] not into that, then [Gm] stay away.
Cool.

We recorded in this place right here in [Bb] Woodstock.
When we jammed on Love Shack,
we had a tape rolling,
and sometimes it would just [C] loop over and over and over,
and we would just jam.
But there was no, the chorus,
the love shack [Eb] is a little old place, that happened once.
[F] And so Fred and I had a [Ab] little sort of argument about,
I said this [G] chorus, the love shack has to happen more.
So once we [Gm] did the chorus a few times,
[C] it sort of all [Gm] came together.
[C] [F] [Gm]
[N]
This is my wife, Monica.
Oh, hello.
Do I have like a black tooth or a limb or anything?
No, no, no.
She runs the place,
and she's running all this construction now.
Have fun.
So we're coming back here.
Okay, I'll be here.
So we're just going to the studio.
I hope there are no dead mice there.
Do you see something?
Yeah, there's dead mice.
Is there something on my face?
Yeah, just a little.
[Db] There's definitely dead mice and [Bb] bodies and everything.
All right, bye, I love you.
[B] Before we started the band,
Keith Strickland [Ab] heard this voice,
like when [Db] he was dreaming, and said, who are they?
And the voice said, it's the B-52s.
So [Bb] he had the idea for the title.
Then, like very [F] first tour after we recorded
our first record, it was like, oh, we're going to Japan.
[N] This is going to be horrible, you know?
So we get to Japan, and they had these posters made,
and they had B-52s bomb Japan.
It had these like wigs dropping from airplanes.
Japan is the only country where Love Shack was not a hit.
My theory is that it was because of the name.
The idea of the name was to diffuse that idea,
basically to make a piece, you know,
to make wigs instead of bombs.
I have a little wig display here.
But this is a B-52?
That is a B-52.
It should be higher, like Cindy's wig now
is that she's wearing on stage, it's like this high.
And why do they call it?
Oh, there's one with the beehive.
Why do they call it B-52?
Because, you know, it's the shape
of sort of a nose cone of a rocket, like a bomb.
That's what [Dm] we thought.
[E] This is beautiful.
This is a work in progress,
because [N] I'm archiving, so don't mind the mess.
My friends put these gold records up,
and they were staying in the studio,
and they just smoked a lot of pot
and put all the gold records up.
You know, they're always saying,
when we do interviews or they announce us,
they say, we've sold like 25 million records,
and Fred always turns to me and said,
where did that money go?
Ha, ha, ha.
Yet another gold record.
I have some stuff stored here.
Just some, just a few little, you know, daytime items,
you know, just kind of, just to wear casually,
and you know, out sort of when I do the garden stuff.
The keyboard, the original keyboard,
we use this one a lot on [C] tour.
But [Eb] the original, original [Gm] Farfisa keyboard,
that is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
So they asked to borrow it, and so it's at the Met.
I just couldn't believe, you know,
my [Eb] keyboard's at the Met Museum, so.
Yeah.
It's pretty thrilling.
[Gm]
[Bb]
It's [C] your [N] butt!
There's been a lot of speculation
about what tin roof rusted means.
I mean, there was a rumor that it meant you were pregnant.
[Cm] Nobody in the band was like, how did that,
or you were drunk, or you know,
people were like, what does that mean?
Well, it's just literal.
In Georgia, there's a lot of cabins.
My house says that, had a rusted tin roof,
because it was funky old shack.
$15 a month.

[D] You know, we were always an indie band,
but having a big hit like that,
that one [Gm] song that [C] becomes one of the [G] 2,000 greatest songs,
[Bb] I guess, it feels [D] good to be able to, you know,
make someone's life [C] better.
You didn't have to do anything really extra.
It's just feel grateful to have that effect.
