Hey guys, I'm Baltazar from Baltazar Guitar, and today I'm going to be teaching you how
to play Take It or Leave It by Cage the Elephant.
It's a very simple song, it really consists of only about 5 chords, [C] and I think you'll
have a lot of fun playing it.
[Dm]
[C]
[Dm]
[C]
[Dm]
[G]
[C]
[F] [Dm] [G]
[Em] [Dm] [E] [C]
[F] [Dm] [G]
[Em] [Dm] [Em] [C]
[F] [Dm] [G]
[Em] [Dm] [Dm] [C] [A] Okay, so throughout the whole song, there's a little kind of riff going on, it's palm
muted and it's very fast, it sounds like this.
[G] [Am]
[F]
[Am] [E] You guys all know it, so that is just the 3rd string, [Am]
the 12th fret [G] to the [F#] 10th fret,
then on the 4th string, the 12th fret to the 10th fret, [G] then on the 4th string, it goes,
well that [Am] first part sounds like this,
[D]
so you play that twice, then on the 4th string
you play the 10th [C] fret, [D] and on the 5th string you play the 12th fret,
[A] which sounds like
[Am]
this.
Then [D] on the 4th string, you play the 12th fret and the 10th fret, which sounds like this.
[G] [C] [D] And you go back to the 3rd and 4th strings playing the 12th and 10th fret, [Am] which sounds like this.
[C] So it just continues throughout the whole song pretty much.
So the chords on the verse are a C chord [Dm] and a D minor chord.
When you play the C [N] chord, it's just a few soft down strokes [C] like this, and then once
you get to the D minor chord, it's a reggae kind of [Dm] staccato thing that sounds like this.
And that goes on [F] behind the little riff that I taught.
And that's the whole verse.
Then it transitions [G] into the chorus, which sounds like this.
[N] And that's just the G chord played in that rhythm.
Okay, so the chorus sounds [C] like this.
[F]
[Dm] [G] [Em]
[Em] [Dm] [Em] [Dm] [C]
That is just a C chord [F] to an F chord to [Dm] a D minor chord [G]
to a G chord.
You [D] hold the C and the G twice as long as [C] the F and the D minor.
So that's the first part that goes.
[F] [Dm] [G] [Em]
The second part goes like this.
[Dm] [Em] [Em] [Dm]
[C] [Em] And that is just an E minor [Dm] to a D [Em] minor to an E [Dm] minor to an E minor [B] and then back to
[C] the C.
And that part is played three times.
And then it goes back to the verse.
So now I'll teach you the bridge or the solo part.
There's two guitars playing in this bridge or solo part.
There's one in the background playing this.
[B] [A]
[B] [G] [C]
[Em] And [D] there's one playing the solo.
The background part is played like this.
You play the fifth [C] fret of the third string [B] to the fourth fret of the third string [A] to
the second fret of the third string back [B] to the fourth fret, which sounds like this.
[C] [B] [A]
[B] You staccato [D] each one three times.
You go up to the seventh fret of still the third string and you play the seventh fret
[A] down to the fifth [C] fret.
[E] Then you play the fifth fret of the second string and the fourth fret of the third string.
The solo [C] sounds like this.
[Em]
[D] [C] [D]
[A] [G] [E] [D] [C]
[E] [C] [D]
[C] It's pretty simple.
This is how you play the solo.
First you play the third fret of the fifth string, which sounds like this.
[N] Then you go to the seventh fret and down to the fifth fret, back down to the third fret,
all of the fifth [E] string, which sounds like this.
[D]
[C] [D] Back up to the fifth fret of the fifth string.
[C] And that's the first part, which sounds like this.
[E] [D] [C] [D]
[A] Then the second part sounds like this.
[G] [E] [D] [C] [D]
[A] That is played like this.
Next you play the seventh fret and then the fifth fret of the fourth string.
[G] [N] Then the seventh and fifth frets of the [E] fifth string.
[D] [Em]
And then the third [G#] and the fifth fret of the [C] fifth string.
[D] And that's the second part.
Then the third and final part sounds like [C] this.
[D]
That [C] whole solo sounds like this.
[E] [D] [C] [D]
[A] [G] [E] [D]
[D] [C]
[D]
And then they sing the bridge part.
So that's [F#] the whole song.
It just goes verse to chorus, verse chorus, solo, bridge, and then one more chorus.
Okay thanks for watching guys.
Have a lot of fun playing this song.
