[Gm] Live and direct from South by [Bb] Southwest, this is Jeremy Stimer with [Gm] Good Music All Day.
I'm here with the Marias who just wrapped up a dreamy 45 minute set with NPR here at
South by Southwest.
So [D] can you guys introduce yourselves?
[B] Yeah, I'm Maria.
I'm Josh.
[Gb] And what do you guys play?
[Eb] I sing and play guitar.
[G] I sort [Cm] of sing and play guitar.
I sing and play drums.
Cool.
[C] And then we've got three other band members [Eb] who are just loading up the band right [G] now.
But Edward James [Abm] on keys, Jesse Pearlman [Fm] on lead guitar, and Carter [Eb] on bass.
[Fm] So some fans have described your [D] music as sex in the [Gb]
[Fm] 70s, pouring cream into coffee.
[Eb] What are some [F] unique descriptions you guys have heard from [C] fans for your [Eb] music?
Definitely those two.
[Cm] There was one girl [Eb] after a show that told us, I wish I could put you guys on [G] a keychain
so I can carry you around with me everywhere.
[Cm] How would you guys describe your music?
[Bb] [Eb] [F]
Psychedelic soul?
[Eb] [Fm] Yeah, a little bit of psychedelic.
[Gbm] Psychedelic pop.
[F] Soul pop?
Yeah.
Soul pop.
[Bb] There we go.
How did you guys form the band?
[Ab]
[Gm] Josh and I met, I was playing [F] a solo show at this place called [Eb] Kibbitz Room and he was
writing sound [Fm] and he came up to me [Gm] after the show and was [Gbm] like, I really like your [Fm] voice
and I'd love to record [Eb] some songs.
So we got [Fm] together and I think the first day [Gm] that we met, we didn't meet in the studio,
but we didn't [D] even work on any music.
[Bb] We just talked and took a walk around the neighborhood.
And [Gm] then [Eb] we started dating.
And the rest of the district.
I checked out, you guys made that playlist [D] on Spotify.
[C] I don't know who made that, [Gm] but it had a little D [Bb]'Angelo, a little Kuko, that new [C] artist coming up.
It's very diverse.
Is that just some artists that influence you [Eb] guys?
It's just artists that we like.
Some we're influenced by, others we just love listening to.
[C] I guess I got influenced by it.
Yeah, so it does kind of go across the board.
I grew up listening to a lot of Latin [Eb] music, but Atlanta is super diverse musically what
it has to offer.
[F] So, Soundfly [Cm] is a pretty interesting setting to play because you were [G] playing in bars,
you were playing in ballrooms.
[D] If you guys were able to form your ideal [Fm] concert that you guys were headlining, [D] where would
it be and who would open for [Fm] you?
It would be [G] in a Japanese [F] garden.
[Eb] And we're going [D] with unrealistic openers.
Probably like, I don't know, [F] Erykah Badu can open for us if she [Eb] wants.
We'll [B] audition her.
D [A]'Angelo, [Bm] Radiohead if they want.
It's cool by us.
[A] What's the super clean, what is that [Gbm] trying to evoke or the [Bm] thinking behind that?
[A] [Bm] Super clean, the [B] song
[Bm] was written [Em] before the album was a thing.
[D] I think I was singing a chorus or [Gb] something and I just kind of said, I've always been super clean.
[Bm] It [A] was gibberish.
I [Gbm] was really just talking, [A] but after [Bm] thinking about it, it's usually what happens when I
say [A] random stuff.
I end up thinking about it [Gbm] later and I'm like, oh yeah, that was [Em] pretty good.
And then we [A] like the name Super Clean [D] and then we're like, well the album is super clean.
[Db] So when can we [Gb] expect Super Clean Volume 2?
In a couple months.
[G] In a couple months.
We're planning a bunch of shows [Gb] now, but it's [B] pretty much almost there [Am] and we're super,
[G] super, super excited to share it with everybody.
But a couple months.
Okay, well that's going to wrap it for Good Music All Day with the Marias.
Be sure to check [A] them out.
They'll be playing a couple of headlining shows.
Coachella, Super Clean Volume 2 will be coming out.
So yeah,
