Hey guys!
Hey!
My name's Wes.
I'm Monica.
And we're gonna talk a little bit about
Sunrise.
Mon's gonna do more of the talking because she's a part of the team
that actually wrote it.
I had nothing to do with the song.
I love the song.
It's
one of my favorite songs on the album and it's so fun to do in church.
Yeah.
So
Mon, why don't you tell us a little bit about the the start of Sunrise.
Yeah, so
Sunrise was a song that we actually wrote on a River Valley worship trip.
This was pre-Ages days so we weren't writing it with the Ages project in mind
whatsoever.
And it was one of those songs that we wrote and pretty much right away
we were like we're not really probably gonna use this song.
There was something
sonically that we just kind of got tripped up by and it was like okay well
that was like a great you know exercise and that's a fun song but it pretty
quickly got moved out of potential for River Valley worship, the project we were
writing for at the time, and then circle around to now a couple years later it
was thrown into the conversation for this project and ended up being on the
obviously on the album one of the singles as well.
So that's super fun but
in terms of the theme of the song and kind of like the heart behind it and
contextual speaking, we were writing a song we knew that we wanted it to be
like faster upbeat worship song and we had kind of landed on the theme of
[N] Sunrise or Horizons was what we originally actually titled the song but
we wanted to write a chorus around the verse within [Ab] limitations 322 through 24
the Lord's unfailing love and mercy still continue fresh as the morning as
sure as the sunrise the Lord is all I have and so in him I put my hope and
yeah we wanted to write basically a song that was symbolic of God's faithfulness
and his mercy and his love to us and for us being as consistent and dependable as
the sun is to rise every single morning and I just think it's cool that [C] the
sunrise is something everybody recognizes and is aware of and can
connect to because we all see it no matter where you are in the world where
you live [Bb] we all see the sunrise you know at different points in our week and
in our life and so that was kind of the idea for the song and then yeah it took
shape a couple years ago and came back alive a few months back.
That's so cool.
Do you
remember like the atmosphere in the room like when you wrote it was it easy did
it come quickly was it a fight to get the lyric did it change at all after?
Yeah honestly lyrically we really melodically and lyrically it came pretty
quickly so it was myself and another group of really awesome songwriters
Clinton, Alan, Mike [N] Fatkin who was the original producer on the song and Faith
Duncan so the four of us were writing and yeah lyrically and melodically pretty
quickly the verses took shape and then we played around with the pre a bit and
then the chorus was also pretty quick we changed the lyric for the chorus a
lot though like I said originally it was horizons and like the idea was God is
as like his faithfulness is like the horizon like we can always see it it
never disappears it never goes away like you can always look out and see the
horizon and then that kind of shifted into the sunrise just because it worked
better with the chorus and the rest of the lyrics in the song so that was like
a big shift that happened but um yeah it actually was pretty pretty quick the
biggest like wrestle point for this song was more sonically like the post
production pieces and figuring out like the intro and some instrumental stuff
and just making it feel unique to the project and to us and that was what we
had to spend a little bit more time on which yeah it's so cool because it's
a reminder to me that sometimes songs or ideas that you have they're worth
fighting for and wrestling with to get to the spot where you you feel good
about yeah because this song has been so great and so special to not just our
youth ministry but our entire house our weekend we do it on the weekends all the
time and our church loves the song and yeah it's just a simple reminder of the
faithfulness of God yeah and he's faithful to to us he's faithful to you
wherever you're at so we love you and we hope this song blesses you yeah love you guys
