Hey, it's Sully [Eb] Erna and I am back [G] with a new solo record.
[Bb]
[Eb] [G]
So it's 2016 and people have been asking me when I was going to come out with a new solo
record because my last one came out in 2010 as you know, which was called Avalon.
There's really no reason behind why it takes me so long to do a solo album.
It's not like I try to just spend years creating some kind of masterpiece.
It's just obviously sometimes I'm busy with [Cm] Godsmack and I'm on the road and so I just
kind of write [G] along the way [Cm] and as years go by I develop music and you know, when
it's ready, [G] it's ready.
[Eb] [G]
Here we are with [Cm] this new record called Hometown Life.
[G] The song itself, Hometown Life, the title track [Eb] is based a lot on [Gm] just me reflecting
back to a place [G] where I was raised, the place that kind of made me who I am today as a musician,
as a man, as an artist and it's kind of sculpted my life and it's one of those places like
within Lawrence, Massachusetts for instance that I always seem to [C] reflect back on it because
[Eb] if I'm having a bad day, I always go back to a place [Gm] where I'm having a worse [Bb] day.
That all [Cm] triggered a song for me and that became the title track [G] to the album.
[Eb] [F]
[G] [Gm]
[G] [Eb] [Gm]
[G] [Bbm] I really wanted to kind of [Eb] circle back to all the musicians that I used on the Avalon
record and by using the same members, I thought it would be [F] really creative and [Eb] unique to
be able to take the same exact musicians and come [F] up with a completely different sounding [Ebm] record.
She's so good.
[Gb]
She's so [Eb] friggin' good.
I can't even go in there because I'll cry.
Come here.
Come here.
Come [Gb] on, hold on one second.
[Eb] Look who's back.
Look who's back.
Our [Bbm] beloved Irina Shikova from Bulgaria.
My favorite cello player in the whole world.
She's back to do my [Eb] second record.
I'm excited.
Yay.
[Bbm] Best in the world right now.
And it's taken a [Eb] completely different turn once again.
Just as people have known that [Gb] Avalon was a [Ab] complete departure from what [Gb] Godsmack was
and I think everybody took a step back and was like, wow, what is [Ab]
this?
It was very unexpected.
I also don't want to keep putting [Eb] out records that sound the same so I didn't want to come
[Gb] out and just have a theme and [Ab] always sound [Bbm] like what we did on Avalon.
Avalon was a very unique and special record where this stuff is a lot more clean, a little
bit more commercial.
There's hints of blues in it.
There's hints of country in it.
There's hints of alternative in it, a lot more mainstream.
But it's just
