[G] Our first artist this time is one of the biggest names in the Texas red dirt scene, Stoney
LaRue.
Now he burst [C] onto the Texas music [G] landscape with his 2005 project, the Red Dirt album,
thanks to his solid song writing and a tremendous voice.
Well we caught up with him recently
to discuss his unique approach [Em] to making music.
[G] I've got five songs down on the new album.
I've got the other five written [Em] and so the
process is [Bm] happening.
[G] I'm not contending [D] with resistance.
I'm [C] answering the [G] call.
Us Time, I wrote that with Dean Dillon, who is a [C] songwriter out of Nashville.
[G] I've been
starting to try to open my own kind of creative doors as opposed to kind of, I lived in a
shell.
I'm just writing with a few people, a few artists, you know, growing up musically.
Cody Canada and Jason Boland and Brandon Jenkins [Em] and people like that, [G] just some of my peers.
But I wanted to try to challenge myself a little more to [Cm] write as many [Em] [D] different kinds
of songs with as [C] many different kinds of [G] people as I could.
[Em] So I started doing that and [Bm] I
ran across Dean [G] Dillon at this LeAnn [D] Womack tribute in Steamboat, [G] Colorado.
What a wonderful
experience that was, just to be sitting down with a guy that's written a million great
songs for a million great people, people that I look up to.
It took about an hour and
a half.
He took me to lunch.
He says, I think we wrote a good one there.
So I started playing
it out [Em] live, anxious to see how people are going [D] to either [G]
hold on to it or throw it away.

But I got a night, a special [D] night planned
for the two of us.
[E]
And I've taken the time to find a [D] place where [E] we can laugh and live
it [A] up.
I'm needing some you, [Bm] having [D] a drink, [E] shooting the breeze just [A] being around you.
Head joke to make [B] you [C#m] smile.
[D] [E] I'm [A] needing some me, acting a [A] fool, [D]
trying to impress you.
[Bm]
Oh, [E] it's time for [A] some us time.
[Bm] [C#m] [D]
[E] [A] [E] I knew you'd [Bm] like it here.
Oh [B] baby, I love it when you
[A] let loose.
[D] A little champagne [Bm] on ice.
[E]
Put us both [A] in the mood.
[E] I got a place just down
the [D] road where we could watch the [E] sunrise.
And after a night of [D] loving on you, I love
that look in your [A] eyes.
I'm needing some you, having [D] a drink, [E] shooting the breeze just being
[A]
around you.
Head joke to [E] make you smile.

my [D] buddy Stoney LaRue.

Consider me a fan of that one.
[G] Keep it locked right here.
Pat
Green, [Em] Guy Clark, and [D] the Statesboro [G] Review are [Em] all coming up [C] on the Texas Music Feed.
