[Eb] Welcome Stonerock brethren, this is Corey at Gemini Guitar and today we're going to
be looking at a repetitive overlapping type of riff you can use and this one's reasonably
challenging.
It is repetitive but it's challenging too and it only uses a few notes which is
really [G] cool so let's check it out.
Ok, first things first, you'll need to be tuned down to drop D, that means the 6th string
is low D in pitch.
I'm just going to play that now so you can check it.
[D]
[N] Now the notes we'll be utilising are the note we just played, low D, the open 6th string.
We're also going to be using fret 10 and fret 12 and that's it.
So this is pretty minimalistic this one.
Ok, so to begin with we're just going to start with bars 1 and 2 and the sequence that involves.
So we pick the open 6th and then we're going to hammer to fret 10 and fret 12.
This is
in a triplet rhythm so that means we're playing 3 notes per beat.
So I'm going to [G] play bars
1 and 2 slowly.
[D]
[C] [D]
[D] [N]
Now on bars 3 and 4 [G] we're going to start on a different note.
Now if you look carefully
at this, it's actually the same 3 notes just starting from a different point.
So whereas
before we played the open, the 10 and the 12, this time we're playing 10, 12 and open
but if you look at that, once the 10 and 12's done, when we get to open it's actually the
same order of notes just starting from a different point and this is what creates that overlapping
sort of sound.
So let's have a listen to it.
Picking 10, hammering to 12, we're going to pick open and then hammer again to 10 and
[C] 12 [D] and [C] [D] [Abm] picking [G] the open 6th again at the end.
So the easiest way to learn this is just to
listen and watch what I do here and that's exactly what I'm going to do.
So this is bars
3 and 4 slowly.
[C] [D]
[C] [D] [C] [D] [C] [D]
[C] [D] [C] [D]
[C] [D] [N] So for bars 5 and 6 we take that concept further and this time we start at fret 12.
So we're
and then again back to 10 and 12.
So again that order of the notes is really the same
thing but we're just starting from a different point.
So I'm going to play these 2 bars for you now.
[D]
[C] [D]
[C] [G] Bear in mind that once you've picked fret 12 then to the open string you should really
only need to pick one note before hammering to 10 and 12 again.
So for example we pick
12 and open 6th, this is bar 5, the beginning of that, hammer to fret [D] 10 and 12.
[B] Then [E] all
you really need to do [G] after that is just pick the open 6th and keep hammering then to 10 and 12.
[D]
[C] [N] Now since we don't really have anywhere to go from there we're just going to start again
back where we began.
So we just start on the open 6th and then do what we did in the intro
which is just hammer to 10 and 12.
Now what I'm going to do now is just play everything
for you at a [E] little bit of a slower tempo and then I'll demonstrate it again at a quicker [D] tempo.
Ok, don't forget you can go to the website www.geminiguitar.ge.com.au and there's a PDF transcription there to download. I'm [G] providing a direct link within more information of this video, check that out, click it on, go over. If you're having problems with Adobe Reader opening it, there's a couple of options there. You can use a different reader, I use Foxit which I find a lot better than Adobe and you can also right click the button and use the save link as option which should download it for sure. Anyways that's about it, so until the next lesson, bye for [A] now. [N]
