Hi, I'm Stevie Van Zandt.
Two years ago, the Rascals, one of the greatest and most important bands in history, reunited for a benefit.
They were amazing.
[G] What's more amazing, [E] it was their first show in 40 years.
Since that show, I've dedicated any time I've had to [G] bringing them back for real.
Their music was unique, not only in its greatness, but through their hit singles, they told the entire story of [E] the 60s.
[G] Rock and soul dance beginnings, through the Brill Building, folk rock, the Civil Rights Movement, jazz rock, the psychedelic era, and Vietnam,
all expressed in their fantastic records.
Their place in history is also unique.
At the height of their success, they were one of the first bands that demanded there be black opening acts,
and the blue-eyed, soulful singing of their two extraordinary lead singers would have as much success on the black charts as the white.
[E] And of course, People Gotta Be Free was one of the [F] anthems of the Civil Rights Movement.
[D] [Dm]
[Bb] [F] [Gm]
[G]
To do justice to their importance, [Eb] I've written a show for [Gm] them that's as unique as they are, called Once Upon a [F] Dream.
It's a combination of a rock concert and a Broadway show [Dm] that will include their own live performance [F] by the original Four Rascals,
Felix, Eddie, [Dm] Dino, and Gene, and be [G] complemented by film segments and [F] news footage.
[D] It'll be a show they can take all over the country.
The lighting and stage design is by one of the greatest designers of all time, Mark Brickman.
Mark was Bruce's first light man, then went on to be Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, the Olympics, and a whole [G] lot more.
He's incredible.
The show will be an uplifting [E] inspiration for you fans that have been waiting all these years, praying for Rascals' comeback.
[C] Those of you who are younger will get a real taste of the 60s you missed the first time around.
