Steve Howe of the British rock group Yes is an Imelda Marcos of guitar collectors.
Here he is showing us some of his incredible [B] collection of over a hundred and fifty five [D#] guitars.
[Em] Well the guitar that I used on
[Dm] the Sharp on Attack track from
[Am] Guitar Speak was this lovely cream Fender [A]
Telecaster that we were comparing [Am] to the Broadcaster.
And that's just one of
about 155 guitars that I've got.
And that
sounds like an awful lot, it looks like quite a lot too, but the main thing is it's a very cross-section.
[G] It isn't [C#] ten [Bm] strats, you know, [Em] it [G] isn't a locked in [D] [G] idea.
[C#] It's a [G] very broad [F#m] spectrum and when I came [G] to record Sharp on Attack
[Bm] what [A] it [G] offers me [Bm] this collection is [F#m] to you [G] know is to walk in [Bm] pick out some [A] instruments [G] that I'd like to experiment [F#m] with.
[G] Some [Am]
experimentation and some you know, well, this is good because I'm doing this.
This guitar is [Dm] the most deluxe Les Paul I think they ever made.
This is a Dan [Am] Electro model.
I don't know whether it's got a number or a name.
This old one isn't the one I was [F] using in the 70s.
This is [G] reissued in 1977.
[Em] Hawaiian [Am] guitar, not dissimilar to like Royce Mac.
[Dm] A lot of early Hawaiian players would have used.
[Am]
Two fenders.
If you can imagine
before [A#] the television, before the telephones.
Suddenly this is a guitar [F] that represents like major step.
This is a Guild [A#] 12 string.
I think it's called a, might be [Gm] called a D40.
It's the Gibson's [Am] Telecaster.
It's the guitar that you can't do anything with other than plug it in and play it.
The comparison between this one, which is later model.
This is a 1955 [A#] Telecaster.
This guitar gives you all that flexibility [Am] because
[A#] not many guitar players ever get up there.
[F] Yes fans.
[C] Yes fanatics will
[A] search in their minds.
What could that have been?
And this is a [Am] American made Strat from the last three.
I think it's about three, two or three years [D] old.
