This is a little song about a guy who used to train horses up the road here in
Roy Grandy, California back [E] in the 19- well when my friend met him, my friend
Les met him in the 1960s.
He was he was getting way up there then, he was
probably in his late 70s.
He was an old [G]-style horse trainer and that if you
snuck around and tried to watch him see what he was doing and he saw you, he'd
stop and go sit on the porch and wait until you went away.
But if you got to
know ya, he'd show you some stuff.
His name was Mike Hernandez and [C] Les said one
day they [N] had just had lunch and Mike told him, he said, you come with me I'll
show you something.
And he took him into a barn about half the size of this this
room here where he had a from one of the rafters he had a piece of broken riata
rawhide rope hanging there and he rode his horse up underneath that rope grabbed
a hold of it and then spun his horse underneath him never let go and stopped
reverse direction and spun him in the opposite way and that's control.
I can
get mine turned in about a three acre field.
[Em] I'm gonna spur him pretty hard in
the neck to get it done.
You guys have a part in this in this song in the chorus
there's a spot in it goes like this it goes round and round [G] and round.
When I do that I
want you guys to shout back at me spinning like this [Em] around and round
spinning [G] and round try it here we go [F#] around [Em] and round spinning [G] and try to do it in time.
Here we go around and [Em] round spinning [G]
and close enough.
[D]
[G] [D] Oh Mike Hernandez [G] was a bueno vaquero [D] he rode good horses [G] California style
