Start Jamming...
[A] [Dbm] He was [Gbm] a [A] thief.
I felt [Gbm] like a
[A] child.
[Gbm] Singing with my silence [D] free.
There's been a lot [Gbm] of pressure that I've probably put upon myself [D] psychologically
about being perceived as [Bm] an entertainer.
Up there, you know, with [E] the guitar, on a stage, I'm elevated.
And the way we're touring now, I'm sitting on a stool,
[C] and it's more like, you know, I'm just [G] visiting with people,
playing my songs for people.
[Dm] I'm a bad
[C] teacher.
[Am]
[G] Singing with my [Cm] silence free.
[G]
[C] [G] All the people that I've worked with or collaborated with,
I was fans of their music [A] before I ever met them.
I was a huge Portishead fan before I ever met Adrian.
And now we're great friends.
[C] And [Am] the same [G] with Tom White's records, [C] especially his later records,
starting with the Islander [G] ones with rainbows and swordfish and [Eb] fun machine, all that.
I just [G] love the sound of his records so [A] much.
It's still hard for me to comprehend [C] the fact that we were on [D] record together,
[G] that he sings lead vocals [D] on a Sparkle Horse [G] album.
And it's like It's a Wonderful Life.
I guess that record had a lot of [Em] high-profile people on it,
and I [E] never really planned on it being [Db] like this star-studded record.
It was really just people that I had met [F] along the way,
having put out three albums,
and just being a Cardigans fan and meeting Nina coming to my show.
Nina happened [E] to be in Brooklyn the same time I was recording [F] tracks for It's a Wonderful Life.
I guess I'm just lucky that being able just to know these people and collaborate with them
has been [Bb] a real gift.
[Gm]
[C] [Dm]
[Db] [Gm]
[C] [F]
[D] [Ebm]
I've lived in New York and Los Angeles, and when I returned to the South,
[Bbm]
I just decided that I wanted to live in the [Gb] country.
Where I've moved to [Abm] now is literally on top of a mountain,
in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina.
It's so high up that the clouds are sometimes [Eb] under me, and [Ebm] there's bears.
I've actually been trapped in a house by a bear one time.
I couldn't go to my studio because [Bbm] there was a bear in my truck.
And it's just a really beautiful [Abm] pastoral valley that I live in.
And this spot in North Carolina [Eb] was almost this valley that was untouched.
It [Ebm] almost had its own weather system.
It rains almost every [Bbm] day, but then it'll stop.
The sun will come out, and you can just sort of smell the soil.
[Abm] And there's lots of water.
There's creeks and rivers everywhere.
It's nice, but it can be dangerous too,
because sometimes I [Eb] get to where I don't come off the top [Ebm] of the mountain for too long.
I get to where I just don't want [Bb] to leave.
And that's one of the reasons it took five years between its wonderful [Abm] life and this record.
[Em] [B] This is from Good Morning Spider.
It's called Pain [B] Blitz.
[Em] [Am] [Em]
[Am] [Em]
[Am] [Em]
[Am] [Em]
But [Am] they know it's so hard
[Em] [Am] [B]
