[D] [Bm] Hey, how are you guys?
I'm about to do a lesson for Southern Man from Neil Young's
After the Gold Rush.
Oh my god, spaced it there for a second.
After the Gold Rush came out in
1970 and
So I just wanted to go over the chords in this.
This song is about
Five and a half minutes long and there's a long [D] solo in it and everything like that, but I just wanted to
[Dm] Give you some chords to get you started so [Bm] you could play it on the acoustic
in the very beginning
[B] [D] [Dm]
You could [Em] play you could either play [A] the D minor in the [D] first position
And you're gonna lift [G] your first finger [Dm] off of the high E string
And your first finger, you know on to the first
[D] D minor
go from that [Gm] to
B flat to
G minor you want to play this G minor, you know this way
[B] with your [Gm] thumb
R'ing that low note [Gm] and then
[G] You add your pinky to the fifth of the high E
[Dm]
[Bb] [Gm] [Dm]
[Gm]
[Bm] So there's does that a couple times and then when it goes into the verse bring up the lyrics here
See [A] start with a D minor
[D] [F]
[Bb] B flat
[Gm] G minor does [Dm] it again?
[A] [F] [Bb]
[Gm]
[D] So you're going from D minor [F] to F
[Bb]
B flat
[Em] G [Gm] minor [C] and then when you're getting to the [Dm] chorus be
[Bb] [Gm] [A] the same as in the beginning
D [Dm] minor [Bb] flat [Gm] G minor with the [A] hammer on
[Eb] [A] Let me see I'm just
The [E] chords are the same, but it's just a little bit of a different tempo.
Let me see that let me go into the second verse
[D] [Bb]
[Gm] [Dm]
[Bb] [Gm] [Dm]
[Bb] And
the [C] last line in second verse when he's getting [A] to
I heard sweet
Oh
It
[Dm]
[Bb] [Gm] [A] just goes back into [Dm] the
[Bb] B flat [Gm] to G minor
[Bm]
So I think that
For the most part.
I think he's playing the D [D] minor in the first position
You could play it, you know like this
[Bm] like for the beginning
[D]
[Bb] [Gm] [C] You know like play that in [Dm] this position here [D] and lift up
Or just lift your second finger
[Gm] [B]
But it's basically [D] it's just D [Bbm] minor to B [Gm] flat
[Eb] And then the chorus it [A] or
Sorry, that was the chorus
[Gm] So for the for the main [A] verses just gonna go from [F] D minor
[Bb]
[Gm] Flat G minor
[Dm] [F]
[Bb] [Gm] [B]
Okay, and
Those are you know most of the chords in the song.
I just wanted to give you that [D] to
[Gb] Get you started.
I know there's a long solo in there
But I just wanted to show you you know a way to play it on the acoustic and
I know that there's you know [Bm] a couple of lessons out there already
But I saw I watched a one you know [Dm] one guy's lesson and the way he was showing
How to play [B] it was just with bar chords like you move from the D [Dm] minor
[Bb] to
[G] G minor like just using bar chords [Gm] and to me.
I [D] don't know it just sounds a little more
[Dm] [Bb] Little more
[Gm] Trebly, and I think he's just playing it [Dm] in the first position
[Bb] You could also play the E flat like this your first finger
At the first of the high E and your second ring finger and pinky or at the third of the D G B string
go to [Gm] the [Dm] G minor
[Bb] [Gm]
[E] [B] All right, but you know [Db] that should
[D] [B] get you started like I said and
Hopefully it will help you you know learn the song a little bit
All right, I'll talk to you all soon.
Have a good
