[G] Hi, welcome back to Tips and Tricks for the [N] Folk Blues Harmonica.
Today I'm using a C [A] diatonic harmonica.
Thank you folks for writing in, trying to answer some of your questions.
Sonny Terry, [Eb] well Sonny Terry, I think it's best you check it out yourself.
The C in his is believin'.
There's a lot of Sonny Terry on YouTube.
[D] When I was growing up I didn't get a chance to actually see him.
I got to meet Ronnie McGee finally, but I never got to see Sonny Terry and Ronnie [E] McGee play together.
Go on YouTube and [G] check it [Gb] out.
It's best to see him.
I got a little rhythm that I adapted from [C]
listening to them.
Very simple little, there you [G] go.
[N] Ta ta ta ti ti ta ta ta.
Make sure you're getting all four tones here.
Hold one, two, three, four below.
You got the two [C] free chords.
[G] Right [D] this way, we'll try it together.
[G]
Rest, rest.
[C]
[G]
See, [A] it kind of swings like that.
[G]
[Bm]
[G] [C]
[E] [G]
[D] [G]
[Bm]
[D] Then you do a little shortening, right?
[G]
[D]
[C] [G]
[E] Now, one more little rhythm we can do here is just ta ta ta ti, [C] ta ta ta ti.
[G]
[C] When you breathe out, the one you breathe out is going to be really [G] short.
It's like, so
[C]
you can just hear [C] the [G] after ring.
You hear that?
It's like, ta ta ta ti, ta ta ta ti.
Then ta ta ti ti, ta ta ti ti, ta ta ti ti.
Now, [C] part of the secret here is that you change the size of your mouth while you're playing.
Like I go [G] like, see how [F] I kind of [G] smile?
[C]
Not only am I making my mouth a little [N] bit wider, where I'm definitely including whole
four and then sometimes even whole five, but I'm changing the sound by changing the size
of my mouth, the timbre [G] of the sound.
[C] So, we're working on it.
[G]
Now, that [C] together with your hand technique.
[G]
[Eb] When I smile, it's like when I got my [C] hand open, and when I frown, I frown, but I bring
your jaw down, aww, then I got my hand closed.
[G] Music's on.
Now, working on it in [Dm] combination with your hand technique, you'll get a [Ab]
much more.
[G]
[N] So, it's kind of an explosive thing.
When your hand's open, you [G] play the note, your [E] hand's open [Am]
explosively at the same time
you're a little smile.
[C]
[A] So, now [G] I bring [G] my jaw down, bring my jaw.
[N] So, I hope you hear the difference in the sound.
We're working on it a little bit here.
So, [G] remember. Perfect.
[C]
And then, [G]
[C]
you can do a train whistle on three and four, four and five, two and three.
[D]
[G]
[G] Now, work on that where you're smiling and frowning.
[C]
[G]
[D]
[C]
So, work on that.
You can go to my website, www [D] .blueswalking.com, and get that backing track so you can play
along with it.
And if you really like it, you can always leave a donation.
Donations are definitely appreciated.
Now, remember what I said.
Keep on a [N]-hopping.
