Hi guys, some people were asking about slow piano blues
Now we've kind of done quite a lot on the blues on this channel the blues scale how to use it
We've got a whole playlist on that but slow blues.
How do we play slow piano blues?
Well, you play the blues slowly
So if you come over [Dm] to the left hand camera person
What I would do in the key of G [N] if you want to do slow blues
The first thing is to get a nice left [G] hand going and I would simply do the chop in G and play it slowly
I mean sort of stating the obvious here, but the first thing to do for slow blues
I would do is simply do that the chop.
Okay, so we all know then come to the right hand camera person and the next thing
You want to do stuff like this?
[C] Comes up again [Gm] in the blues, the blues scale in G.
[B] So all I'm doing it
[Eb]
[Db] [A] [G] We can add a G there
Just singly
Use [C] some trills
[D]
[A]
[G] [C]
[D]
[A] Octaves are a good thing to use in the [D] slow blues
Just [G]
the blues scale
[C]
[C] and then trill
[G]
[A]
[C] [A]
[G] [C] [Eb]
[Dm] And then vary the volume, [G] you know go quiet, quiet
Now remember the trill is really important in slow blues because it's like sort of crying really
[C]
[D]
[G] [A]
[G] [C] [Eb] [Gm]
[Gm] [G] So what I've done there is just I've thrown out a few ideas for slow blues piano
And just to recap it all you want to do first [D] of all is do the chop very slowly in the left hand in the right
Hand come over to the right hand camera person in the right hand
All you need [G] to do is first of all learn [Gm] the blues scale in G
I'll put a little playlist at the end of this lesson about [N] the blues scale and how to use it and I'll put that up
On the end of this video so stay until the end of the [G] video and I'll put up that playlist just in case you don't know
[Cm] How to use a blue [Gm] scale, but I'm doing the blues scale [G] in [G] octaves
Trilling the octaves like that
Doing [D] this very famous blues [G] riff
Comes up again in a lot of blues or
[D]
Trilling like that.
I also trill like that
And I also trill like that
Three types of [G] trills, one more time
Just the octave with the middle with the five, that's the seventh and just the five in the seventh
Practice those trills, do octave trills
[Gm] [G] [Dm]
[Gm] Above all, above all
[C] Play with [Gm] feel
[G]
[Gm] [G]
[Dm] [D]
[C] [G]
[C] [Eb] [G] The thing about slow blues and perhaps the most important thing is that you can have all the technique in the world
But if you don't mean it when you [Eb] play it, it won't be the blues
So remember don't get caught so much caught up
which is a big mistake of beginners in learning all the blues scale all the kind of trills and
You play it and there's no feeling [N] behind it because the blues is all about feel and
You've got to feel it really got a meaning in order for it to be convincing blues
Another thing you might want to do is learn the blues scale and how to use it.
I've done ten lessons on that
I'm going to put the playlist up after this video
