[C] [Bb] Bishkana here for CBC Music.
It's very late at night.
Very, very late.
Late for me.
[Eb] I don't know if it's late for No Means No.
John, Tom?
Not when you're in wild rose country.
We are in wild rose country.
We're at Sled Island in Calgary, Alberta.
How are you feeling right now after playing another truly inspiring set, [Bb] if I might say?
Pretty happy.
We have been playing pretty well.
[Eb] Yeah, it was good.
No B-flats when there was supposed to be an A-flat?
I was fumbling around here and there.
I made a few mistakes.
We got [B] a whole new set together.
Well, new old set.
New old songs.
We only played one new song today [Bb] from our EPs.
Am I right?
This has been happening quite a bit lately where you just will start [G] to dig into the archives and add an older song back into [Bb] rotation?
[E] John, please go ahead.
I just feel terrible.
Is it weird?
It's nice having a large [N] repertoire.
You don't have to play the same old songs all the time.
You can mix it up.
No rags and bones tonight.
[F] We played Would We Be Alive, I think for the first time since 1996 [E] live.
I was wondering about that.
I can't remember.
It's one of the ones I made a mistake in.
It wasn't noticeable, if I might say.
The last time we [B] played that was with Ken Kempster.
Oh, [Dbm] [E]
interesting.
He left and we looked around for another drummer and couldn't find one.
Couldn't find an additional guy.
[Eb] We looked everywhere.
On the couch.
[E] [Em] We had people over.
They're hard to turn up.
It's true.
This was kind of a one-off.
The Sled Island had invited us out.
We're not on [Bb] tour right now.
We just came out for the one show.
[N] We're heading back over to Europe in September.
We'll be ten weeks over there this fall.
Oh, great.
That's awesome.
I hear there may be a new EP as well?
I think it's at the pressing plant.
It's probably even being shipped [Eb] as we speak.
It's [N] a project that Robbie put together because he's totally into dub music and electronic music now.
He managed to round up some [Eb]
dub mixers.
Some big names too.
[E] I'm not super into that music.
[Bb]
One fellow, Sam Shackleton, apparently is very well known.
[E] Four of our songs have been deconstructed [B] and put back together for an EP.
It's pretty cool.
[Bb] He's got more response.
Probably going to do another four songs.
That's great.
Maybe one of his own.
We'll see.
Yeah, that's cool.
Before I let you go, we are in Calgary, Alberta.
I reckon over the last thirty odd years, No Means No have played Calgary [B] upwards of twelve times at least.
The first time was 1984.
Oh, okay.
[Eb] That was the first time.
[Gb] Almost thirty!
It's a city where upscale dining is [Db] defined by everybody being able [Bb] to see the TV.
Do you have a soft spot for
So you have a bit of a soft spot [Eb] for Calgary or no?
Tom, I wonder how you feel about Calgary.
You know, Calgary was terrible back in the 80s.
It was [Gb] so hard to get a good show.
But like I say, it's all grown up.
It's a big town now.
So the shows here are quite good and a lot of music [Bb] is coming out of this town.
Would you normally [N] play
You're playing a Legion.
You're playing No.
1 Legion, which is literally a Legion.
That's for people who can see.
It's a fantastic place.
It's a great place.
Where would you normally play at this point?
In Calgary?
[Bb]
Republic.
Okay.
[E] Hi-Fi we've played a number of times.
[Em] But [Bb] yeah, no, this is fun.
This is good?
Okay.
I think it's the [N]
ideal
[Bb]
[Em] Wild Rose Convention.
Sure.
[Bb] Excellent.
Well, it's great to see you in Calgary.
I've seen you all over the place I feel like, but not really.
That's not true.
I've seen you here and there in Ontario.
It's nice to see you in Calgary [Eb] and
Yeah, I don't know when we're going to be back out in Toronto.
[Gb] Oh, great.
[E] And then people can look at no-means-whatever.com for some information.
That's right.
Up to date.
Yes.
[Bb] Thank you so much, John and Tom.
We should all go to bed.
Not together.
[B] Well, no, let's just depart.
[Gm] We'll go our [Bb] separate ways.
I'm very [Eb] tired.
More from Sled Island on CBC [Bb] Music.
Stay where you are.
