And then in between this, after this, you did another project with LeFave and Picasso
and all those guys.
[C] Was that before this?
Yeah, that was a great record.
Yeah, yeah.
We get together, [E] LeFave and Picasso [Gb] and just Eliza Gilkyson and Sarah Lee [D] Guthrie and Ron
Ryan and [N] Rose Paul.
It's kind of a rotating cast.
Three or four of us get together and we have a quorum and we go out and do the Ribbon of
Highway and the Skyway show, which is a tribute to Woody Guthrie.
And we get together and do that a few times a year.
Last year we kind of got a compilation record out on it.
We've got it in the rack and play it.
It's good.
On your last record, I've noticed, I like it, it's the Green Mountains and Me.
And then [C] the last one was, I mean, we're not [Eb] talking politics here, but [N] how did you come
up with this Green Mountain and Me?
It's one of my favorite songs.
Well, come on, it's a great song.
I [Ab] [C] grew up in Maine and I have this friend in Vermont named Dave Farnsworth.
He sent me an early version of that song and we decided to pick on it together.
[D] We kind of sent it back and forth to each other through email a couple years ago.
And it's a song about the people left behind when someone gets sent overseas to fight a war.
And we tried to make it apply, you know, to be more timeless than just talking about the current situation.
But I did find out [E] after the record came out, Dave told me, you know, that song was inspired
by a Gulf War casualty from my hometown, [Ab] which was South Royalton, Vermont.
Actually two, an Iraq casualty and an Afghanistan casualty, another Vermont guy that Dave knew.
And so I didn't realize that until we recorded the song.
So [B] whenever we played that song, we dedicated [G] it to any service families out [Cm] there because
they've been going more than their [Abm] fair share through every conflict that we were involved with.
[A] And in [B] Vermont, if someone dies, I imagine the whole state knows about it.
Yeah, yeah, there's not that many people up [C] there.
That's a good point.
I think, what is there, about a half [F] a million people in the whole state of Vermont?
[F] Something like that.
[D] Something like that.
Within three square miles of here.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have Sleet [Abm] Cleaves here and he is going to be [C] playing with, Matthew
Electrician is going to be opening up at the Granada Theater tonight and he'll be going
on the band at nine o'clock.
So if you don't have anything to do after dinner, you might consider going over [N] there
and having some fun with these guys.
It's always good, you always get great shows.
That's a great place, the Granada.
We're very honored that they keep asking us back.
I don't know if people have been there or not, but I guess it used to be a movie theater, right?
Oh yeah, it's an old one.
Yeah, it's a really good old place.
Let's do another one [G] here.
Yeah, that'd be great.
You're on the other [Am] side of the world tonight, [C] but under the [D] same cold stars.
[G] And tonight I'll [A] dream you [Am] right back home [C] to this little life [D] of ours.
[G] We'll walk hand in [Am] hand through fields of green, [C] just like we [D] did last year.
[G] And it's so hard [Am] to wake up every day [C] and watch as your dreams [D] disappear.
[C] It's quiet here, [D] the little boy is asleep.
[C] He looks more like you [D] than me, dad.
[G] Won't you come back, [Em] come back my darling.
[G] Each night I pray on [Em] a bended knee.
[C] Won't you come back to the green [Em] mountains I need.
[G] You see a car [Am] coming off the driveway, [C] up to your [D] parents' place.
[G] The old man looks [Am] up from his raking, [C] as the color drains from your [D] mom's face.
[G] She's crying softly [Am] by the window, [C] as your daddy shakes the [D] soldier's hands.
[D] The [G] taillights disappear [Am] into the woods below.
[C] And he's frozen in the doorway where [D] he stands.
[C] In the twilight, [D] in the silent smoke.
[C] I hear you singing [D] it by your door.
[G] Won't you come back, come [Em] back my darling.
[G] Each night I pray [Em] on a bended knee.
[C] Won't you come [D] back to the green [Em] mountains I need.
[G] [Am]
[C] [D]
[G] [Em]
[C] [D] [Em]
[G]
Well the seasons [A] come and the seasons [Am] go.
[C]
Spatter [G] every [D] day, [G]
I [Am] lose a little bit of myself.
[C] With each year I [G] wobble [D] away.
[G] [C]
People on the [D] street used to stop and talk.
[C]
Now they look down [Em] and walk [D] right by.
[G] Won't you come back, come back [Em] my darling.
[G] Each night I pray on a bended [Em] knee.
Won't you come back to the green mountains I need.
