[Em] Cave Circus is a group [Am] of [C#] musicians [D#] slash [B] performers [Em] that travel together and
try and put on as stunning and moving a show as they can possibly muster up with whatever
[F] resources they have.

[E] We were all one big group [B] that was experiencing a spectacle.
[D]
Every show something [Bm] new and [A] different and [D] amazing happened.
I [A] think that most of the kids in [B] the punk rock scene [A] these days go [D] to shows and expect
to just see bands and see bands play songs.
[A] With the Skunk Cave [F#m] Circus [G] it wasn't just [D] seeing a band.
There were bands in it but there were [F#m] all sorts of [D] more [A] parts to the experience.
The [B] whole, I don't know how long it was, maybe an hour [D]
of performance pieces was just [G] one
long [Dm] performance [A] with [Em] segments.
At a [A] regular punk rock show [G] the way that [F#m] people can show their [A] enthusiasm and their
positive response to a performance is very [D] defined.
[A]
[F#m] You know that you sing [D] along to the words of a song.
If you know the [G] song you like the band and that's how you show the band that you're into
what you're doing.
At the circus tour the entire performance was just more [A] free form and in general people
didn't know exactly, [D] it wasn't defined how [F#m] someone would positively respond to it [Bm] and
so the responses that [D] people did give were a lot more of their own initiative and a lot
more [F#m] empowering I would say than at a [D] regular punk rock show.
[A] It really challenged [G] people's ideas of [D]
the kind of performances you [G] see in the underground
[D] [A] scene that we were playing in.
It was an experience where everyone [G] involved, the audience [F#m] was involved in [D] the performance.
It was a real interactive [Bm] performance [D] piece and I think that a lot of the time [A] you don't
[G] find that a lot in these kinds of venues.
You don't find that a lot [D]
in [A] general.
Our performance [G] pieces that actually bring the audience in and [A] let them experience the
performance with you.

I mean [A] I like to think that everyone [B] saw the Skunk Game Circus [G#] Tour, had their [G] sense of
what was possible [D] expanded.
An undertaking that [G] you and people that you knew would be [D] capable of actually pulling off.
[A] In terms of specifics, a lot of people at shows [G] mentioned that they had also wanted
to do [F#m] a circus or something [A] like it and they [D] just never seen an example of anyone actually [E] doing it.
So the [G] fact that they saw us do it was [A] inspiring to [D] them and made them think that it was a
lot more possible than they might have thought.
[A] And then more specifically, I know people who since then have started their [D] own circus
and have started a circus club at their [G] college.
And specifically, [D] we're inspired by our example enough to start a circus themselves.

[B] I think it's important [D]
that all [G] young people have some sort of [D] experience where they can
create something by themselves and [G] have it be theirs.
[A] And then actually do that.
[B] [D] I think [A] that's a really important experience for any musician to have.
Through doing the circus tour and [Dm] touring [D] something besides just [E] bands and independent
music [A] channels, I believe that we [D] increase the market for things to [Dm] go on tour in an
independent, [B] self-directed, [C] self [C#m]-initiated way for things [D] that aren't just music.
We set an [D#] example of that being possible and in that way [Em] changed the market for things
that aren't music touring in those [G] ways.
[D]
[F] We've been [G] going around [D] all over the [C] country performing this [G] piece with [D] no [F] money to start out [C] with.
Just a [G] bunch of people's car [D] and people getting [C] together and [E] saying we want to do [G] it.
And then [C] we did it.
[D] And we went around and somehow we [G] managed to make it work.

[C] [G] I [D] never thought it [F] would be [C] possible [G] to [D] create my own circus [C] program.
[D] I think it's really important for [C] you to have experience [D] in creating something by [Em] yourself
and having [C] all the input be from that.
[D]
There's a [G] sense of [D]
[Em] real empowerment there.
[Am] We can [A] do anything [C] we want to.
[D] We can do [G] that.
We can pretty much do it [Am] here.
[C]
[G] [D]
[G] [C] [D] I realized that anything [G] was possible as long as me [D] and a [A#] group of people [E] believed that
it was [G] enough to actually [D] try to do it through [C] all, like just through all hardship.
[G] [D] And I believe [F] that now [C] in a way that I [G] didn't before.
