You start off, it's [N] your anecdote really.
Well, we were on tour, it was like the end of 95 with the Banshees and Nox, who's playing
with us now, we were passing through the lobby of the hotel and Nox tends to say hello to
most people, he always knows somebody from somewhere, you know, and I thought it was
a friend of his from New York.
And we went out for breakfast and this guy comes along
with us, you know, so we're sitting there in this very small little like kind of greasy
cafe in France, ordering our eggs and coffee, and we're all talking away and suddenly the
guy opposite me, you know, I don't really recognise this person, [E] says, you know, I used
to do one of your songs in my set, you know, I'm thinking, wow, I wonder who this guy is,
and he says, I used to do Killing [A] Time, you know, from our album Boomerang, and then started
to sing it in this beautiful, sweet, full set of voice, and it's like 10.30.3 in the morning, you know, and we're kind of just waking up and I'm thinking, so anyway, I'm walking back after that and I said to Nox, [D] who was that, you know, he says, Geoff Buckley. Oh wow, because I was thinking, which band was he in, you know. Did [N] you know who he was? Not really. Maybe that's the thing, because I didn't know who, I'd never heard of his music, I probably hadn't really heard of his dad, you know, because I don't think at that point he had really, nothing had happened in England, certainly not where we were, hidden away in France. So this was like summer 95, I think it was, and [A#] when we got back off that, we were like finishing up doing the last Banshee shows and it was festivals, so when we got back to France, [E] I mean I was stunned that somebody had done a Creatures song, but plus that he'd picked Killing Time, I mean it's a very, I mean it tells a lot about the choice of song that he [D] chose to cover. And there was a really special show we did, we got some brass in and I dedicated the song to him, I still never got to hear him perform it, and Budgie got to hear him perform it a cappella. That was the real shock, because it gave [C] me I mean, that must have been very surreal. I was just knocked out by his voice and I'm not easily impressed by singers. There's very [E] few singers that I listen to. I mean, I don't get into bands so much, a lot of the time I can't get into a band because I can't stand the singer. You know, I may like the band, the music, but [N] if the singer's like the regular Joe that he usually is, [C#] I really am not interested. And so I was really knocked out by his voice.
