♪ Baby be the love [D#] of the party, I'm telling [A#] you this.

What's up guys, it's Shawn Mendes,
and I'm gonna [D#] teach you how to play my song,
Life of the Party.
The [Gm] inspiration behind Life of the Party [D#] is,
[A#] as a teenager, I definitely noticed that there was times
[D#] where I felt like I didn't fit in.
I was [Gm] starting to like doubt myself,
like how cool [D#] I was or whatever.
And I think like when it really [A#] comes down to it,
to simplify it, it's just about [Dm] loving who you are
as a person.
So Life of the Party isn't too difficult [A] to play,
just simple chords that [F#m] I'm pretty sure you know.
So we're gonna start on capo two here,
and then your beginning chords to start the song off
is gonna be E minor, [D] then it's just gonna go to C,
[A] then it's gonna go to G, then a quick [Bm] to A minor.
[F#] What you wanna do, this whole time,
it's called palm muting.
What palm muting is, is you just put my,
it's kinda like the side area of my hand right here,
on the back of the guitar.
So instead of like playing [A] full out chords,
it sounds more of like a, it's really cool,
and it gives you like a [G#] really nice sound
when you're singing along with your [F#m] guitar.
So I hit the E minor, I basically just go to a C,
[A] to the G, [E] quickly to the A [F#m] minor, to E minor, C, [A]
G.
[B][F#] I love you when you [D] just [A] don't care ♪
♪ I [F#] love you when you dance like there's nobody [A]
there ♪
[Bm] And basically, [F#m] that's how it goes until you get
to the [D] chorus, [F#] where you're gonna stop at the G,
and then it's just gonna [A] be G [D] to a C,
[F#m] to an E minor again, [D] back to the C.
To give it more of a jump, or more of a pop,
when I come down, there's like, I hit all the notes,
but what I really focus on is like [Em] hitting this note
that I lift my finger up, and I kind of [Bm] come,
come hammering down on it.
So [F#] it gives it kind of like a twangy sound,
or whatever that sound is.
So when [E] you come down, it sounds like you're playing
a [G] lot more notes than you actually [E] are.
It's like a trick to [G] make people think
that you're a better guitar player than you actually [F#] are.
But anyways, they're super easy, and I mean,
the way I play [A] it on this could just be like,
[F#m]
and I always hammer down on that C,
and it sounds really pretty.
After that [F#] chorus, it's gonna go straight back
into your beginning chords, which was back [F#m] again
to the E minor, [D] to the C, [A] to the G,
to [Bm] the A minor quickly.
But except this time, when you [F#] come into it,
instead of doing [F#m] the [Bm] down [A] like this,
you're gonna do it [B] more of like [F#] an up-down beat.
[A] So it's gonna go quicker, it's gonna be like [F#] this.
[F#m]
[E] [A]
[F#] So basically [G] what I'm doing instead of [N] just,
instead of that, I'm going like on every offbeat,
I swipe up, so it's gonna be like that.
And the whole time, what you need to remember
is to keep your palm there so that it's muted.
A little trick you can do right before this chorus,
in this song, you hear a drum beat
before it goes into the second chorus.
What I do [F#m] is I go, [F#] you can go up to here,
[A] then you can, and just hit this E string,
you can go one, two, three, four.
[F#m] And no palm muting once you get into the chorus,
you just play it full out.
Back [D] to the same chorus, it goes to [A] G, to [F#m] C,
to E minor, back to C.
So it's super simple.
So yeah, so then that's [A] the second chorus,
and out of the second chorus,
you wanna go into the bridge
where the chords change up a bit.
It's gonna go E minor to G to [F#m] C,
and then [A] quickly up to G to [E] this chord,
which I don't know the name of.
It's just a special chord [G#] that you play in the bridge.
All you have to do is on the second fret,
you put your finger on the E [G#m] string
and your finger on the G [E] string.
So it's like a really nice melodic sounding chord,
which sounds [F#m] really good in the bridge.
Come out tonight, come [A] out tonight,
[D] there's no one standing [F#m] in your way.
Come out tonight, [A] come out tonight,
we [D] don't care what them people [A] say.

So that's it, I hope you [C#] guys are inspired
to go out and learn Life of the Party now.
