[Abm] [E] [B] As [G] it's Hogmanay, delighted to welcome one of Scotland's most [Eb] successful exports.
To start off the celebrations with me, Charlene Spaterius to you.
It's lovely to see you, Charlene.
You too.
Before we have a blether, let's have a look.
It's kind of like your amazing back catalogue.
Oh [Em] God.
[A] I'm crying to you, [G]
all [A] through the year.
[G] [B] So you [A] like it if [G] you love me, if you care.
[Bbm] Black [Ab] guy soul, you should [Gb] know.
That there's [F] nowhere else to [Bbm] go.
My black guy [Ab] boy, [B] come on let's get down tonight.
Come on let's get down tonight.
[Gb] Join my carnival [B] of love.
Let [Gb] me sleep, [E] so I can dream of [B] you.
[Gb] Let me sleep.
[F]
Zanadu.
[G]
Zanadu.
Now we [Bb] know who you are. [C] Zanadu.
[Bb] [F] [Db] There you go, [Eb] in a flash.
[Dm] Just a [C] few [G] highlights, because if we put them all in, you know, it would be a very, very long show.
Indeed, it's great.
I've been really [Eb] lucky, and as a band we've been really lucky to have such a long career.
I mean, what is it, 22 years now?
It is not.
Yeah, 22 years.
That's actually quite scary.
It is, it's one of those ones that's scary, and it makes you smile [Ab] as well.
Yeah, it's been an amazing, [Gm] there's so much [Ab] stuff that we've done and seen, and people we've met through the years.
Yeah, and the fact that we're still [G] able and allowed to still make music is fantastic.
Are you going to get back together with Texas?
Is that going to happen?
We're touring in the summer.
Yeah, we're doing, we've already, I think they've already gone on sale.
We're doing all the race courses, so [Ab] that's our start up for Texas that will run [Gm] next year, and then that will go into the following year as well.
That makes sense.
So that's festivals, we're doing all the European festivals and stuff like that.
We're just doing a few bits and pieces to start us up, and then it will run right through.
Because you must have [Ab] missed them.
I know you still see them.
I still see [Gm] them all the time.
Of course you do.
But you miss them, you know, [G] performing with them and being with them that way.
I do too.
I mean, I think it's been a really weird couple of years because Ali had brain aneurysm.
Of course.
Is he okay?
He's absolutely fine.
Good.
It'll be [N] good all to stand on a stage together again and play.
Yeah, it'll be great.
But you've also been nurturing new talent.
You know, we saw that on the show that you did for Sky, which was fantastic.
And it was Emma's imagination that won, wasn't it?
Emma's imagination won.
[Bm] Yeah.
You know, she's such [D] an amazing songwriter and artist, [G] and somebody that [D] really, really [G] knows where she wants to [B] go
and has a very definite idea of [D] how she wants to do it and the direction she [G] wants to take.
I loved doing the show.
You [D] know, it was when you first start it, it's kind of scary suddenly getting into the world of TV.
Yeah.
[N] And I've got to say, by the end [D] of it, all three of us, the judges, myself, [G] Dizzy and Jamie, just absolutely loved it.
We had some really good laughs and [D] some [Gbm] very feisty [B] arguments [Gm] amongst us.
But it was great, though, because you [Ab] absolutely, you didn't come out with just cliché [Gm] upon cliché upon cliché.
You really spoke your mind.
You all know what you're talking about.
Partly my face was hysterical.
But you were so honest.
That was what was so good about it.
You were so, so honest.
It was, you know, the thing was, I think [Ab] the fact that the show was doing something that [G] was for songwriters and musicians.
You [Ab] know, there's a place for everybody.
Of course.
You know, you've got your X Factor and whatever that's for really good artists that don't know where they want to go and they need lead in that way.
And then this was an alternative for people that did know what [G] they wanted to do.
And the fact that they were doing the downloads as well, which was completely, something completely new.
That was a really [Ab] big deal for me.
The fact that the artists were making the money through their songwriting.
That was really important.
And you really are a good mentor because you are mentoring other bands as well, aren't you?
I'm managing now with Johnny, who's my songwriting partner.
We've got a management company now and we've got some bands that are put there actually.
We're into the new year now.
So since we're going to this year, it's like we've got Ramona, who've got a single coming out and then we've got our other band, The Controls, who've got a single coming out as well.
And their albums will come out in the middle of the year.
So, yeah, we're really excited about that.
I think that's brilliant [G] because the thing is you've been there and done that.
You know what to avoid, what to do.
You know, you can help them.
You can help them in that sense.
I know everybody's got to learn their own way.
It's really important.
I mean, I think the fact that we are very aware [Ab] of that to have longevity and to have a career that you must know exactly what you want.
And I think, you know, to be honest, we wouldn't be doing this if we weren't working with bands that did know where [G] they wanted to go and how they wanted to do it.
They have very definite ideas as songwriters and artists of how they want to come across and what [Ab] they want to do, how they want to tour and [G] what they want their artwork to look like and who they want to produce it and, you know, whether they want to do it themselves, whatever.
It's really good and it's really inspiring to see people doing it for [Eb] the first time again.
You know, that's really good to be part of that.
For them allowing us to be part of that as well has been really great.
I must say, I do like the hair.
You have to share with the nation.
Who did your hair, Miss Charlene?
I can feel my face going red there.
[Ab]
Yeah, I was at a baby shower a couple of weeks ago and Miss Kate Moth took to the [G] scissors and cut my hair.
She did your hair?
Yeah, she cut it.
Good job.
Well, I was saying to her, I said to her, I really like, she had a wig [N] on and they cover her at ID magazine and I said, I really like your hair and she went, I'll cut your hair like that.
And you know that when you look in Kate's eyes, just look in Kate's eyes and you know that she knows exactly what to do.
Right, and she's going to do it and it'll be fine.
And it was fine and, you know what, I never let anybody cut my hair.
I'm always really weird if I get my hair cut because, you know, I was a hairdresser.
Of course.
And, yeah, we went off to the kitchen and she cut my hair with a pair of kitchen scissors.
And it actually looks really good.
It's amazing.
It's one of the best haircuts I've had.
It's really good.
I love it.
I'm really in love.
So, you know, if things ever get bad for her in the modelling business, she can always come to…
Yeah, I'm sure that's going to happen.
She can always go around cutting people's hair.
Well, she's done quite a few haircuts, apparently, so, yeah, I think she's…
Well, it's not bad.
She's definitely got the eye for it, anyway.
She knows what she's doing.
She knows what she's doing.
Absolutely.
Now, I need to ask you about your baby girl.
What age is she now?
She's eight years old.
Eight.
Gosh, that's amazing, isn't it?
And any signs of musical ability and all of that?
Is she just like any other kid?
She's not quite sure?
There's plenty of signs of drama.
Oh, sure.
I'll tell you that.
Everything's very dramatic at the moment.
And, [G] yeah, she loves music and she enjoys it.
She's always playing her music in her bedroom and everything and dancing around like a complete maniac.
I don't personally think she'll go into music, to be honest with you.
I think she'll do…
She's a very good artist and I think she'll go into film making or something.
Something creative?
She's always like, yeah, I think it'll be creative no matter what.
But I don't think it's going to be music, to be honest with you.
And does she think you're cool?
I don't know.
Nobody thinks their mum's cool.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Nobody thinks their mum's cool.
She did think I was cool when I was doing Must Be The Music, though.
Ah, right, okay.
Yeah, she thought that was pretty cool.
[Em] So she was chuffed because she got to come [Gm] and hang out.
Oh, yeah.
Fantastic.
She loved it and, you know, all the kids loved it.
And are you going first [Ab] fitting tonight?
Listen, now that [N] Madam's eight years old…
…she's never coming over with their kids [G] and everyone's going to be chucked out the door before 12.
So she's of an age that she can first foot me now.
Fantastic.
I remember having to stand there as a kid, like this.
Oh, yes, she's old, coming in, knocking on the door to be the first person in.
So, yeah, she will be first footing.
Excellent.
She's very beautiful.
[C] Oh, thank you.
As are you.
Great to see you.
And good luck with 2011, for goodness sake.
Yeah, I know.
Scary, scary stuff is nearly upon us.
I know.
Thank you, Shirley.
Thank you.

And any signs of musical ability and all of that?
Is she just like any other kid?
She's not quite sure?
There's plenty of signs of drama.
Oh, sure.
I'll tell you that. _ _
But I don't think it's going to be _ _ music, to be honest with you.
Listen, now that [N] Madam's eight years _ old…
…she's never coming over with their kids [G] and everyone's going to be chucked out the door before 12.
So _ she's of an age that she can first foot me now.
Thank you.
_ [N] _
To start off the celebrations with me, Charlene Spaterius to you.
It's lovely to see you, Charlene.
You too.
Before we have a blether, let's have a look.
It's kind of like your amazing back catalogue.
Oh [Em] God.
[A] I'm crying to you, [G]
all [A] through the year.
[G] _ [B] So you [A] like it if [G] you love me, if you care. _
_ [Bbm] _ Black [Ab] guy soul, you should [Gb] know.
That there's [F] nowhere else to [Bbm] go.
My black guy [Ab] boy, [B] come on let's get down tonight.
Come on let's get down tonight.
[Gb] Join my carnival [B] of love.
Let [Gb] me _ _ sleep, [E] so I can dream of [B] you. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Gb] _ Let me sleep.
[F] _ _
Zanadu.
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _
Zanadu.
_ Now we [Bb] know who you are. [C] Zanadu.
_ _ [Bb] _ _ [F] _ [Db] There you go, [Eb] in a flash.
_ [Bm] Yeah.
_ _ _ I'm managing now with Johnny, who's my songwriting partner.
They have very definite ideas as songwriters and artists of how they want to _ come across and what [Ab] they want to do, how they want to tour and [G] what they want their artwork to look like and who they want to produce it and, you know, whether they want to do it themselves, whatever.
[Ab] _
Yeah, I was at a baby shower a couple of weeks ago and _ Miss Kate Moth took to the [G] scissors and cut my hair.
_ She can always go around cutting people's hair.
