In 1973, [Fm] Johnny Cash handed [C] his 18-year-old daughter, Roseanne, a list he put together
called the 100 [Am] [E] Essential Country [F] Songs.
And while the Grammy-winning artist is a songwriter at heart, Roseanne [C] decided to cover 12 of
those songs for her new CD called simply [Am]
The List.
And you had put Welcome, honey.
Thank you.
You had put [N] that list away for a long
You still have the original list, right?
I do.
Oh, thank God you kept that.
I'm a pack rat, luckily.
But he was surprised at the time, wasn't he, that you didn't know any of these songs?
He was.
I mean, I grew up in Southern California, so I knew a lot of rock and roll.
He mentioned these country songs.
I said, I don't know that.
And he got very alarmed.
Yes.
How did you whittle it down from 100 to 12?
That must have been difficult to cherry-pick.
It was difficult, but that was the most exciting part of the whole project, is to decide which
ones really fit my voice, which ones I love so much and have been singing in the shower
for 30 years.
And you also knew that there are certain songs that could never be done again like this.
Land is your land.
That's right.
I know why it's on the list, but I don't need to do it again.
And then you found the finest producer in the business.
Hello.
Hi, you guys.
Hello, Linda.
Pretend sheep I hear.
No, he did not.
Did you guys agree on all the choices?
No, we actually didn't.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks for your input.
That's a microcosm, by the way.
Can we just say congratulations?
