[G]
[Gm]
My name is Ronnie Hawkins, and I was born in [Ebm] Huntsville, Arkansas, 1935.
I spent most of my growing up years there in school, and then I tried the Memphis Circuit,
and then I came to Canada in 1958.
[C] [Ebm] [Bbm]
Well, that's when everybody's having lots of fun, and you don't owe any money, and you
ain't got any bills you gotta pay, and you don't have any stress, and boy, that would
be lots of [Db] fun.
Well, my greatest fear is setting up in a nice big place where she's packed, and you're
worried about the audience.
You're worried about if you can go over or not.
[D] [G] It'd be my mother, because she's the one that helps you through everything, and that's the
smartest lady and best lady I've ever seen would be my mother.
I wish I could sing like Bobby Blue Bland and Ray Charles, [Gm] so my characteristic would
be that [G] I would like to be able to sing a lot better than what I do.
I don't like people who like to show off or belittle other people.
I don't like those kind of people, and there's a lot of it in the entertainment business.
Partying was one thing I was too excessive in, drinking, smoking.
I did everything excessive during that period of your youth when you're wanting to become somebody.
Ooh, like I said, I'd like to be able to sing like Ray Charles and Bobby Blue Bland.
[Eb] They were my two favorite singers.
I love to live in Canada.
To me, Canada is the promised land.
It always has been.
Everybody I think now knows that, except still some Canadians.
All you have to do is get sick in another country, and you'll wish you was back in [E] Canada.
[Ab] I think I would come back as Hugh Hefner.
He's the only man that I wanted to change places with.
I wouldn't have traded places with Elvis.
I wouldn't have traded places with Frank Sinatra or any of them big stars or any of them groups.
Rolling Stones meant nothing to me, or the Beatles.
I was enjoying doing what I'm doing, playing the kind of music that I play, and going over.
But there's one man that I thought he had more fun and more of my lifestyle than anybody
[F] ever, and that was Hugh Hefner.
I'm still jealous of him.
[G] The most satisfaction you can get if you're an entertainer is to go over.
The audience like you.
That gives you a buzz that drugs can't give you, if that's what you want in life.
When the music's right and the audience is right, you get a high that's higher than anything
you can get out of a drugstore.
My most obvious characteristic is good looks and a beautiful body.
Well, my greatest achievement was being able to stay in Canada as long as I did and play
for all those years and end up winning a few little awards for playing.
To play music.
All I've ever wanted to do since I can remember, four or five years old.
To me, the lowest step of despair [Gm] would be when you see people that need things [G] that
should be able to [C] get them and can't.
Poverty.
[D] [Cm] Well, my favorite words that I live by [D] would be, keep [C] rocking.
Don't ever give up.
[Cm] Keep rocking [D] because the big time [C] is just around the corner, you hope.
