Roger, welcome to the Klancafe.
It's an honor to have you in our show.
It looks [A] great, great event.
I've seen, been looking [Ab] at the pictures.
Yeah.
It's very, very special.
You've been here for three days, all solo out venues [Eb] in Rotterdam and in Amsterdam,
but we are going to talk [Fm] about classical music.
You are very fond of it.
It's where I go to relax, to be inspired.
I mean, classical music really has always been very important to me.
Debussy has influenced me very much.
[F] I mean, Holst, [Ab] Planets, I mean, a lot of different pieces, obviously.
But [Dm] yes, I'm a [Bb] big lover of classical music.
And you [Cm] told me that Gustav Holst [Dbm] also inspired you with a composition, your own composition.
I remember when I [Bbm] was in my teenage years, I used to listen to Holst's Planets a lot.
So there was a piece that [Gm] found its way into a fool's overture.
[Bbm] I shouldn't give away the secret.
But I have.
It's the melody.
Do [Ebm] do do do do do do [B] do do do do do do do.
I don't know if anyone remembers it.
[Bbm]
[Db] What's your favorite piece of Debussy?
[Gb] [Eb] Clair de Lune, I have to say.
It's amazing.
If you [Ebm] listen to Clair de Lune, [Db] when Debussy starts, he doesn't return to [Eb] the beginning
till the very end.
He takes you on this whole journey, [Db] then comes back to the refrain that he started with,
which is so unusual for music.
I mean, [Ab] mostly music is in popular music anyway.
It's [Ebm] verse, chorus, it's very structured.
So it really [Ab] inspired me, I think, without [F] even knowing it, [Db] because it was [F] letting the
music go where [Ebm] it wanted to go and then [Ab]
return [Db] to the original theme.
And I can just feel how [Gb] inspired he was when he wrote it.
And I know, [Db] being a songwriter myself, I know there are those times where you're not writing [Gb] from here.
You're writing, this is out of the way.
And the music [Ab] just goes where it wants to go.
[F] So you're writing from your [Bbm] soul, from your heart?
From [Bb] my heart, from your soul, from your higher self.
But I really, I know true inspiration, whether you're a [Ebm] painter or a musician, whatever it
is, [Bb] really comes when you're out of the way.
You're not trying to control it.
What do you [Ebm] advise young people [Gb] to listen to?
I think anything [Ab] that [Ebm] touches them, really.
[Bm] Because I think in every [Bb] medium, in classical music, in modern music, in [Gb] jazz, [C] there's great
music and there's not so great music.
And [Ebm] for me, I look to music [Db] that touches me, whether it's in [Dbm] rock or pop or classical.
Is it an idea for the future to [Ab] sometimes to be a director for an orchestra, because
you're so [Db] melodic artist?
A director, I don't know about [Fm] a director.
I think that's a special [E] talent.
I like [Db] composing for the orchestra.
I do shows with the orchestra and [Fm] it's always [E] wonderful to hear my songs with an orchestra.
And a lot of my songs lend themselves to an orchestra very well.
[Ab] Okay, thank you.
Oh, thank you.
[Db] And please, Klang Cafe, I'd love to come and join you.
It looks like a wonderful event.
It is, man.
Yeah, I can feel it.
I can feel it from the pictures.
So, okay.
[E] Yes.
Love to everyone.
