[D] For me, I've always wanted, I've always had deep questions [A] and I've always really wanted
to know true love.
[D] I wanted to know God.
I mean, what they told me about [N] God didn't make any sense to me growing up.
You know, I wanted to have a real connection.
And so, without even really thinking about it, music was where I went to yearn or pray
A lot of songs came from just playing and feeling that yearning in my being for connection.
Music was really where I found myself or I found a piece [Cm] of myself.
And it was where I went to express what was going on inside in a safe place.

[Bb] Logical Song [Fm] is very [F] autobiographical because [Ab] they did [Cm] send me away.
They sent me [Ab] away to teach me [Gm] how to be sensible.
[Bb] Logical, [Ab] responsible, [A] practical.
And [Cm] then they showed me a world where I [Ab] could be so [Gm] deep and alone.
[Bb] How meaningful, how [Ab] it seemed like to [F] see me there [Eb] at times.
It was a good school.
It was one of the best in England.
And yet, I was really more [Ab] unsure of who I [Fm] was and definitely not [Bb] prepared [Db] for [Eb] being an adult.
Please, please tell me what we [Cm] call it sounds absurd.
But please tell me who [Db] I [C] am.
[Bbm] [Db]
[Fm] [Bb] [Ab] I think there's a lot, [Cm] it's what's missing at school that is [G] for me the loudest thing.
Because we are taught to function [Ab] outwardly.
But we're [Am] not taught who we [Cm] are inwardly and what really the true purpose of life is.
[G] There's very little discussion [Bb] even in school.
And [Ab] I think for me the [Cm] natural uniqueness and the natural awe and wonder.
And thirst and [Ab] enthusiasm and joy of life that young children have [F]
get lost.
It gets [Cm] beaten out of them in a way.

At age 12 when [Ab] my parents divorced, that was a big [Db] moment for me because [Bb] two things happened.
[Gb] My dad left and I didn't see him for about 15 years.
But also he left me his guitar.
And I have a feeling, I don't know, I think he knew I wanted to touch it.
He never used to let me touch it.
I used to watch him playing these songs.
But he left me his guitar and that changed my life.
Because then that guitar was mine and I took that [N] guitar to boarding school.
And that became my best friend and where I went at every spare moment to learn.
And immediately I actually started writing songs.
Funny, I feel like all these songs are like my babies, my children.
You know, there's
Like Breakfast in [Cm] America.
My little [Gm] pet.
[Ab] She's the only [D] one I got to [Bb] call my own.
And [Gm] if [A] you know that there's a reason why [E] I need to be [C] alone
All [Cm] of [D] my life I felt that you were [Cm] listening
Mama G, oh won't you [D] come [Eb] to me

You know, to make it big.
And we made it big.
And it didn't bring the fulfillment or the satisfaction or the joy that I was hoping.

It wasn't even what I [Bm] wanted.
But [D] I learned a lot about myself.
So now I'm coming [G] back as [D] a much more whole being, [G] whole man.
And I have much more to give.
Even [D] in the quietest moments
I wish I [G] knew
[D] What I had to [G] do
And even [D] though the sun is shining
I can feel the [G] rain
Here [D] it comes [G] again,
[D] [E] dear
[C] And even [G] when you [D] showed me

But [Dm] there's a shadow of doubt that's [A] not [Am] letting me find you [G] too soon
